Magic Online sign in problems

Okay, I set up an account and got back the confirmation email. The problem is when I actually put in my Name and Password and click "logon", I get a small text window with gobble-de-gook in it and if I hit the Checkmark button, it just goes away. Did I sign up wrong or is there something else I need to be doing (and I am connected to the Internet when I do this )

you're possibly using an old-version.

Try to start the launcher first. (modo.exe instead of modo1.exe)

Okay, let me ask you this...

This was explained in an older thread but let me recap:

When I first put the Magic Online CD in, the Autoplay ran and it asked me if I wanted to "update files", which meant connecting to the Internet. It then proceeded to d/l a bunch of files.

When I click on modo.exe, it asks the same thing. Are these two different updates, or is modo repeating what the Autoplay did?

I suppose I can just try it, but I'm at work and can't do it right away so I figured I'd ask while I'm here

it's 2 different things, the 1st d/l gets an old version and if you run it again it gets a newer one, but it doesn't look much different from the 1st d/l.

I was confused by this too

Okay, thanks, I'll try it. I thought everything was on the disk and it only went to the Internet for updates when it first ran, but apparently not...

Okay, I tried modo.exe and now it says files.ins is missing or can't be opened. I know someone else had this problem (ademis?) so can that someone spell out how they fixed it? I tried creating an empty file with notepad called files.ins in the main Magic Online directory but that didn't work...
