I think it sucks they won't offer this in reality...

They could make tons... and I'm not really concerned about the secondary market...

lol, WotC is playing up to their online gathering by inherently reprinting some of the older cards that they would never consider printing evar again.

FYI: The reason they're doing this is to make Type 1.5 (or Legacy, or whatever it's called) a viable online format. All those cards currently exist in real life, so if someone wants them bad enough, they can get a hold of them... not so online.

And personally, I could care less that they're non-redeemable. I get about 10x more use out of my online cards then my IRL cards, and since I only collect to play (not to invest) I'm just happy for the opportunity to pick up and play with some of the staples that were around when I first started playing.

I understand creating an online format... What I was looking at in the non-redeemable, is that there was the possibility of building up entire sets online, and redeeming them for real cards, so the player or business has a sense of value, other than electronic only...

That isn't even a possibility with these... regardless of flooding the market, etc... they would still be vintage, and could encourage more people to play vintage in real life also...

I guess it really depends on the individual, as some have done this for years with Ultima Online, Star Wars, etc...

Not quite. As far as play value goes, yeah, you're never going to be able to get these cards in real life to play with.

But there is a real life monetary value inherent in any purchase of the online cards. Because the electronic cards are purchased for real money at the online store, they can be sold for real money just the same. If this set turns out to be as limited and exclusive as what I've read, and if the popularity stays high, it's quite possible that the cards will accrue a fairly high value among online players, who would be willing to buy the online cards for real money.
