You have to go to a WotC store to get the disk though. I have a 50 MB file which would enable you to Download another 150 MB to get the game installed, but I have no where to put it, and I'm waiting to hear if we can give that file away. Theoretically I heard that their "premier" stores would get disks to give away as well, but I don't know that to be true right now.

But if you live near a WotC store, you can ask there (If you can't get the disk they all have it installed on their boxes to try).

What kind of connection do you have? I have a regular dialup and was wondering how it performed on that.

I use it at home on a "Very Good" 28.8 connection. I have installed it at work to test on a T1 and it responds wonderfully. I would reccomend a good amount of RAM though, the game wants a lot, 64 works barely (not sure if it is due to debugging features turned on now or not).

I say very good because I connect to my workplace and basically have a T1 to myself, where some (most) dialups will share a connection (hopefully T1 or greater) with many (more than 50) users, so while you connect at 49 or 50 KB, you are really getting as much or less than I am with my 28.8.

But actual gameplay doesn't use much BW, it is the downloads (hopefully a alpha/beta thing) which take time (up to 10 mins to start the game). They aren't daily, and some days are better than others. Usually it is to add cards which weren't already implemented or fix bugs. Also the files we were given did not include any of the card images, so those are downloaded as required. I hope that will be changed for the live release. But I'm not the only one on dialup, or the only one with only 28.8. During testing they only have 1 server running the game, and that is the guilty party for lag, especially when they run tournaments with upwards of 200 people playing.

I love Magic Online!

Just wanted to share that.

It's a little slow until you get used to it, especially if one or more players has auto-stops turned on, and particularly if someone keeps forgetting to hit 'OK'.

But it's otherwise pretty cool.

There are no nearby WotC stores, at least for 8 or 9 hours drive.
Is there a place I can get it via download? I've got a super high speed connection so it would only take a little bit of time.

Also, does the disk cost money, or is it free?

If it's free, could someone just make a trip to a store and then send the CDs out to those who want them?

If it's not, could someone quote me a price?

Well, I have my Alpha CD, which I am allowed to share, it has a 50 MB file on it, and when you install it, it will download more from the update site to bring you to the most current version. problem is, I don't really have a place to share it from other than work. I may do that on a limited basis next week if no one volunteers some BW. We have a T1 there, and I could make it available one evening for those with good connections. modem connections would be a nightmare. If anyone has any other ideas, feel free to share them.
