The Tentacled One
Tetsuo Umezawa is one of the more interesting Legends legends, and I wanted to do something special with this commander. A cheap 3/3 that can't be targeted by auras is OK, but not much to work with. So it's the activated ability that's the main show. Some of the cards in here are dedicated to maximizing that ability, but ultimately, the direction I was pulled was toward a Grixis control deck. Tetsuo probably won't be striking my opponents down directly, but he can interfere with combat and buy time for a slower gameplan to come online.

I've done Grixis control before, and I wanted to take the approach that made the most sense. I was inspired by another Grixis control deck, which I threw together quickly and played in the West Coast Commander League three years ago. This deck is more refined, and might be the first Tetsuo Umezawa Superfriends deck anyone has built in the world. It's been fun, although it's a bit more vulnerable early on than I was hoping for, and I've been in games where the deck kind of got overwhelmed. If that doesn't happen, the planeswalkers tend to draw a lot of fire and I get multiple opponents interacting and trying to stop me from taking over the board. That's my idea of a good time, so I guess this is deck makes sense for me. If you don't want a bullseye on your head, this might not be the deck for you. :p
