I was at Suncoast today, and when I went up to pay for my tapes, the Clerk asked me if i wanted to reserve anything. I told her that I would like to reserve a copy of Lord of The Rings. She then asked me which one. I looked at her quizically and she told me that the version released in we saw in theaters was coming out in august, but a rated R version was coming out in November.

I reserved the Rated R copy, as I'd like to see what they left out of the theater version, but this is the first I've heard of it. Has anyone else heard this?

It's NOT going to be rated R. The rumor was killed on the official site.

I think you're thinking of "National Lampoon's Board With the Rings," a parody that features Dilldoe Buggerers(insted of Bilbo) and many other satires of LOTR... I havn't shelled out the $15 for the fifty-eight page "limited edition, larger sized novel that doens't fit into a fat man's pocket" edition called a "trade paperback" that it only appears in nowadays...

I looked on Suncoast's website, and the release isn't neccesarily rated R. the clerk probably said that just to lure me in. But it is the same movie Lord of the Rings, but with 30 more minutes of footage cut out from the theatrical version.

I think that's probably the "collector's edition" then, since you mentioned the additional footage. I have no idea why they would release a "regular" version and then a "collectors" (well, I do; to make more money, but that's just dopey since the releases are pretty close to each other, relatively).

Most likely the R- was put there not for sex, but for violence. Imagine a more graphic battle scene between the good guys an the orcs at the beginning, or a more showing account of the fight in the dwarven ruins.

That is probably the reason. So all of you hoping to see Liv Tyler nude...you ain't gonna see it on that LOTR tape. ;)
