Kill: Undying flames to the dome with the leviathans(cc9) or krakens (cc11)
set up with top.
Alternate kill: Discard big fattie to dralnu's pet = big fat flyer.
Oh no I just went Epic: use the guildmage for removal (plenty o cards in hand due to drawing, also courtesy to bounce lands) and blockers.
Reset button: kindle the carnage with fattie in hand...


So what is your opinion?

Couple of cards that would work in here:

Pyromancy (will also work when Undying Flames is in action)
Volrath's Shapeshifter (same)
Erratic Explosion/Kaboom!
Infernal Genesis
Kindle the Carnage
Psychic Battle
Cauldron Dance (which also gets around the nasty upkeeps)
Timesifter

Also, and probably more importantly, you want to get up to that 6 mana ASAP, so some accell would be helpful. The Masques depletion lands could be quite good for this, since once you cast the Flames you really don't care about your lands fading away.

Thanks for the feedback...

I think adding cauldron dance would make this another kind of deck. A deck that is bent on having Leviathans on the board and attacking (though not for long) and not exploding in the face of the opponent.

Im planning to play casual with this deck this weekend. Ill update this thread then with how the deck plays (What is lacking and what is good).

As promised... a match report.

Round 1: Against Tribal Thrulls.
My opponent played a mixed orzhov- and old school thrull deck backed up with soul exchange and mage marks. I started with a hand with several fatties, a top, and one kindle the carnage. I felt confident. It only went downhill from there. For the first couple of turns I did nothing but play a top and rakdos guildmage and draw 2 consecutive kindles and land. My opponent meanwhile kept adding creatures to his thrull collection and soon my lone guildmage was overwhelmed. I put a stop to that by casting kindle...for 9 (hehe). The process of drawing no business and watching a thrull army grow out of control repeated itself two more times. Each time I reset the board with a fattie dropped to kindle. Nevertheless, I ran out of fuel before I could even begin to mount an offence against the thrull onslaught. My opponent ended at 20 life. I never drew a undying flames. Instead, I kept staring at useless cards on the top of my library.

Round 2: Against Horobi deck.

His deck sported ernham djinns. Three of them. In succession. I killed two with a kindle. Then played a pet with kicker (kraken), which was freakin awesome. It got brainspoilt however and here the list of usefull things I managed pretty much ends. After that another djinn hit the board and kept kickin my ass. In respons I collected four rakdos bounce lands. In addition, I faced the same problem as before; the top revealed absolutely no usefull cards to me and I could only dig one card a time which felt excrutiating..

Round 3: Selesnya (Aura/bramble elemental)
This round featured all the things I envisioned of how the deck would play. Mana fixing through early top. Turn 5 kindle to reset the board. Then cast undying flames revealing grozoth. Then checked the top and put a polar kraken on top of my deck. That was game.

Overal record: 1-2
Conclusions:
-Kindle the carnage is a great card.
-A top without shuffling effects can be pretty useless.
-The deck has need of a good early game creature that works within the decks confines.
-Needs more islands.

Im thinking of either adding 4 vampire hounds (needs more dog:)) and some soldiers of fortune.
Or adding 4 stinkweep imps, to dredge past useless cards on the top of the deck.
To this end I would take out the riptide shapeshifters and noble benefactors.

So...What do you think?

Soldier of Fortune is nice, but not worth including just for top if you ask me. Top is awesome with shuffling effects and dredging is also an excellent idea.

Split cards work good with Undying Flames (and Kindle the Carnage) because they are cheap to cast but do damage equal to both sides added up when revealed. With 3 colors you can add some with the same color combinations.

-A near rare but a very good one is: Fire // Ice. Removal and cantrip and flames for 4.
-Pain // Suffering gives you some disruption (destroying a Karoo is very effective) and it flames for 5.
-Rise // Fall might be an interesting trick. And it flames for 4.
-Spite // Malice is excellent: Counterspell, creature removal and flames for.....8!

Enough flaming from my side ;) Now you know what I'm planning to create.

i have a kaboom/erratic deck that works quite well, but its mono red... and you're route i really like the kindle the carnage idea/shapeshifter idea...

you may also want to run volrath's shapeshifter though, you may also want to consider that aetherplasm thing that you can put a creature from your hand into play, or maybe fold into aether.. if you have enough mana (and maybe cheap spells)..

although a r/u version would be insane...

if you're interested, my monored worked insane.. you might be able to use some parts of it..

basically it ran

pulverize
cave-in
pyrokensis
slice and dice
fireblast

for "free burn"

also ran the mercadian masks red depletion land

4 scroll racks
4 pyromancy
3-4 kaboom
4 erratic explosion

blinkmoth infusion
autochon worm
draco
anything that was 11+

it had the ability to kill on turn 3.. with no mana accel..

t1:mountain, wait..
t2:mountain, wait..
t3:mountain, erratic explosion revealing draco, sac 2 lands for fireblast :D.

and any cards you have in hand you can scroll rack back or pyromancy.

if you're doing a r/u build... a "i can get awesome creatures for nothin/ aka. erratic explosion for the win"

you may want to change some things:

i took a look at riptide shapeshifter.... he's pretty bad..
im thinking volrath's shapeshifter, unstable shapeshifter, etc.

shifty doppelganger might be a good one shot, pay 3, attack with a polar kraken, fling him, game...

sensei's top should probably be replaced with scroll rack..

bloodshot cyclops and/or fling should find its way in..

there should also be some mana acceleration..
maybe 4x saprazzan skerry and
4x sandstone needle... and most likely 4 izzet signets..

for a turn 2 show and tell/erratic/ or something equally brutal..

you could even run that awful artifact timesifter for extra turns..

you may also need something to give these monsters haste..

i was thinking about replacing kaboom with fling... as all i'd need is two turns and one attack...

even thought the depletion lands are really suicidal, i dont think it matters..
but with 4 signets... it might be helpful to run more "solid lands"

maybe using just 2 saprazzan, 2 sandstone...

here are some early games.. i'm gonna try this on mws...

turn 2 island, show and tell, autochton
turn 3 erratic revealing hypnox

turn 1:mountain
turn 2:island, signet
turn 3: show and tell silvos (holding fling)
turn 4: attack with silvos, play shifty doppel (holding fling)
turn 5: use shifty/fling/attack.

turn 1: sandstone
turn 2: sandstone, play signet
turn 3: mountain, tap all for 6 mana,... play 2 show and tells
