Let's put it to a vote.

I post a few articles, cut some others, and people tell me I'm doing a lousy job.

I quit, and people PM me asking me not to quit, including some of the people who told me I was doing a lousy job. *sigh*

So let's put it to a vote. If you'd like for me to continue to be an editor, say so. If not, say so. I started getting stricter based on popular request, then I quit based on popular request, so I might as well decide this whole thing based on popular request.

If enough people want me to be the editor, I will be. But considering all the flak I've taken lately, I want to know that people will stand behind me even if I make decisions that they may not necessarily like.

Oh, and BTW, I have no intention of changing my editing style. If it pertains to M:TG, it stays. If not, it goes.

Come on, vote...stay...

Isty, I cranked on you at the beginning, but that was not a reflection on your competency, it was a reflection of MY personal opinion (and you know what opinions are like, don't you?).

Can't be an editor without drawing SOME flak, Isty dearie. <grins> In fact, personal experience has shown that all the good ones tend to draw a lot of fire. Writers tend to be rather attached to their masterpieces (articles, et. al.) and really hate anyone messing around with them. On the same train of thought, writers who don't learn to accept the fact that editors WILL edit their articles (must be why they're called editors, huh? ;) ) tend to be the ones who never get published.

I vote stay. ;)

I'm wondering if any of the "Leave" votes will want to voice their opinions... I personally am indifferent, since I understand perfectly well your reasons for leaving, and I can see both perspectives quite clearly on this issue.

...earlier, I said stay...and that is still my vote, but since I was hyper back then, I did not see exactly what Istanbul said.

He said that he'll not change his editing style, which is alright with me. Though, wouldn't that mean that the front page, IF update by Istanbul, would be "Magic Only"? How about if Spiderman updates it? Wouldn't be "Jolly Molly"? I think so...so why all the difference? So now, we gotta know when to submit an article in order for it to be posted? That's not right. I think there should be a unified system...not what Istanbul/Spiderman wish to see.

What do YOU PEOPLE of the CPA want to see in front page? I'm talking about YOU all, not the people who "just read" the front page but are not registered...we're more important...right now.

If we all like "Jolly Molly", which is Magic with a twist of fun, then that's what we should get, and that's what the editors should edit in terms of.

If we want "Magic Only", than that's what we should go by.

Let's here the opinion of many, aight?

You are doing a fine job. Don't let that thread get you down. Just because you let an article go through that others thought sucked doesn't mean You suck! I mean, I'M the one who wrote the blasted thing in the first place. Stay................................or die.

But I just wont to say two things:

Do whichever will make you happiest.

Don't make huge revisions without contacting the author first.

Okay, three:

Whereas every article ought to pertain to M:tG in some way, surely it is not necessary for every paragraph to do so.
Again, at least let the author know if you plan to cut large sections; give him/her a chance to revise or withdraw.

I think the tarapin has the best idea yet:

Just send it back to the author the same way a "real" (ie. newspaper, magazine) editor would do, for revisions.

There's a problem with that.

See, if it was a pen-and-paper submission, I could send it back to the author, and he could work it out.

But when I go to edit articles, I'm presented with two options: post it, or delete it. There's no 'return to sender' option, and even if I do contact the author, s/he can't actually edit the article. Thus begins an awkward, prolonged process of having the author tell me what they want to put in their article, and me trying to put it in verbatim.

Therein lies a flaw in the system itself.

Oh, and I don't believe that every single sentence has to be about M:TG, no. But when two full paragraphs discuss the proper plural usage of the word 'djinn', I have to have a *really* good reason not to cut them.

Why can't you cut/paste it into an e-mail back to the author, and then delete it?

You realize you can ignore it, right? Or put a note into it about why it's not being published (so others don't publish it), and then stick a "U" (minus the quotes) back in the "notes" box?

True, but just ignoring it doesn't actually solve the problem. The article is still there, and still needs work.

What we need is some feature that sends the article back to the original writer.

Well, considering that about a dozen people are publically asking me to stay, I guess I will.

Now, if you'll excuse me, there's probably already a backlog...

you might think that i have something against you. but i dont. i think that it should be up to the author to revise the post. not istanbul. sorry dude. spiderman should do it, or have the author do it, only if there are requests for it, or some info was mistaken

Mmmmm hmmm. Okay, instead of being unanimous, it's everybody vs. one. I'll still continue being editor. Riva, if you don't like my style, you have two choices: grin and bear it, or don't post any articles.
