Has anyone read any of these "Left Behind" book series? This religous friend of mine hooked me up with the first one, and I started reading it. It was ok, but I thought it was too "Gody" for my tastes. Its really a book/series for those who believe in god (I dont).

Im sure it would be an awesome book to whoever does...I just wanna get some more thoughts about it.

What say you?

I haven't read any of them yet, but I'm very intrigued by the series. It's so freaking popular. The mother of one of my friends loaned me the first one, but I still haven't gotten around to reading it. There just seems to be so much other stuff that I'd rather read, and I'm not much of a novel reader. Maybe I'll get to it eventually.

Well, I'll admit to not having read the books, and to having no plans to do so.
But...
Just from my understanding of the subject matter, it seems that Christians ought to find it blasphemous.
But...
Somehow I will refrain from a "Hypocrisy of Modern Christianity" rant.

Somehow...

I am a Christian. So....

If you are a Atheist or something that you do not belive in God, do not read the book. I read one, and it was boring. Even to a Christian. But I have a friend who is so Christian, he can't watch the Simpsons. H0e LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVES the books. I say "yeah, yeah, they're great" when I'm thinking, "I hate those books!"
The one I read only talked about God the whole time, and I belive in him too. Let's put it this way: I would rather read the bible.

But actually, It was a pretty cool storyline, other than all the godly stuff...

I think i saw a movie based on the books. . . cause the title is familiar.

It was horrible. I mean, cool storyline
(i guess  )

But the acting, effects, in general it was BAD. really bad

There was indeed a Left Behind movie, which was reportedly absolutely awful.

But don't go dissing the bible - THAT'S a great book. Not for the religious connotations, it actually reads fairly well once you get used to the language, and some of the stories are very engaging, depending on your mood. :) If you haven't read it, you might want to try some time... It's a fairly good book, as long as you can look at it as a BOOK, and not a religious symbol.

Don't you ever wonder who wrote the bible? I mean, who told the person writing the bible that god rested on the seventh day? Maybe god rested on the eigth day, and just to screw up man with the seven day work-week, came up with sunday ( I would've called the eigth day Maeday, just so everyone could go around the streets saying, MAYDAY!!!! well anyway)

I have never read those books, heard of them, seen the movie, or otherwise given them a thought. However the bible is a cool book I must admit, and surprisingly, many scientists don't take into account what the bible says, although many of the kings and things they have done in the bible have been proven true and lived. So... I agree with Zadok, the bible should be seen as a book, instead of a religous symbol (unless of course you be a religous person)

(I believe) it is generally accepted among biblical scholars that Genesis and maybe the next couple of books were written during King David's time. A person or more likely people probably decided it was a good time to actually write down the oral traditions that had been passed on. Thus, the early parts of Genesis were probably how someone "imagined" how God Created.

Of course, perhaps someone was struck by a vision from God and wrote it down <shrug> There were a couple of prophets around so that's a possibility.

As for naming the days of the week, I don't know how ancient Hebrews kept track but our current system came from Viking mythology.

Actually, to be a smart ass like I do so well, it was Norse mythology, I can't remember them all but Wednesday was named after Wedan (weden? I can't remember...) the wife of Odin, Thursday was named after the obvious, Thor. The rest of the days are named after various Norse gods...

For some odd reason this reminds me of the first thread I saw, it was something like "____ creates a random topic that will make a huge discussion" IT was all about who beleives in god and why, do you remember it? It was well over 8 pages when I last remember.

Viking, Norse, pretty much the same thing...

(actually, I knew the right term wasn't Viking, but had a brain burp).

It was Wodan. And Friday is Frey(a?)...

The Genesis is a story tale that was told to the Jewish children as a sort of how God love us before he created us. I am a Christian too (the Roman Catholic). And if you don't believe it I live in the most Catholic country that exists in the world. More than Italy or any other place.

Monday - Moon-day
Tuesday - Tuela?
Wednesday - Wodan
Thursday - Thor
Friday - Freya
Saturday - Saturn-day
Sunday - Sun-day

Januray - Janus
February - Febe/Phebe ?
March - Mars
April -
June - Junos
July - Julius Ceasar
August - Augustus
September - 7th Month
October - 8th Month
November - 9th Month
December - 10th Month
