Seal of Fire and Shock, or type 1 equivalents if you are leaning towards a casual/MP deck. But if it is MP beware the wiseguy who thinks that Extinction is a good metagame choice... ;)

A lesser threat is that Protection from Kavu merfolk. I doubt you will see many of them, but should he crop up, (maybe in sideboards if Kavu become popular due to your deck) you need to be able to remove it from play -- hence the Seal and Shock.

Some of the red Kavu benefit from swamps/black mana in general. If you play some of those, that black opens up new realms of creature removal, search possibilities, and maybe even creatures (I LIKE Darigaaz, as well as the red wizard (Thunderscape?) -- her ability to give all your creatures +2/+2 until end of turn for GG is just obscene!).

Hull Breach is a nobrainer, I guess.

Just some thoughts...

One of the best Type II Kavu based decks that I've seen was Jay's "SluGh" Its not all Kavu but it has several.

[cut/paste]

SluGh
Lands(23):
7 Forest
3 Mountain
4 Karplusan Forest
4 Rishadan Port
2 City of Brass
2 Shivan Oasis
1 Rith Grove

Creatures(28):
4 Llanowar Elves
4 Skyshroud Ridgeback
4 Thornscape Familiar
4 Horned Kavu
4 Raging Kavu
2 Thornscape Battlemage
3 Blastoderm
2 Flametongue Kavu
1 Sparkcaster

Spells(10):
4 Assault/Battery
4 Rhystic Lightning
2 Magma Burst

As usual SluGh looks like a pile. The last one did too but it also won a state championship, so it must have had something going for it. Sligh decks and now their SluGh brothers have a fine tradition of using cards that others scorn.

This deck is really fast. Turn 5 opposed kills are not that unusual. Of course it'd better be fast with junk cards like Skyshroud Ridgeback. For the record, I really don't like this guy but in the current metagame he's the fastest and he has a strong synchronicity with SluGh.

The primary card this deck showcases is the Horned Kavu. Everything in SluGh is good to bounce - so much so that there's a Sparkcaster just to up the odds of drawing a gating creature (and Sparkcaster bounces well too.) The Thornscape Familiar is superb - aside from easing the gating fees they make for an interesting looking Mana Curve - significantly flatter but only for the Red spells. This is in part why there's only 3 Blastoderms they're just too expensive but on the other hand they're also so broken.

The Thornscape Battlemage is testing very well. Expect to see an increase in the number played. Green Burn spells are very important in winning the Rebel fight. The Cities & Grove are to allow the odd Shatter Kicker from the Battlemage.

The burn spells have been chosen for mana efficiency - Magma Burst is very strong but a little slow. Testing has shown 2 to be the right number. Rhystics are used instead of Rage as the opponent should never have the mana to pay the Rhystic cost and there are a few 4 toughness things that need to die.

The card that wants to be added in the most is the Quiron Dryad. It's a beating in SluGh. Fast and it drinks milk (self-gating makes it grow) . However, it's extremely poor vs. bounce and the current metagame seems to be bounce heavy. Otherwise, more Thornscapes, Flametongue and maybe another Sparkcaster.

hope that help's

Infamous Kavu (IBC deck)

Creatures - 25
4 Kavu Titan
4 Raging Kavu
3 Kavu Monarch
4 Thornscape Familiar
2 Sparkcaster
4 Thunderscape Familiar
4 Quirion Dryad

Spells - 13
2 Kavu Lair
2 Ghitu Fire
2 Bend or Break
3 Hull Breach
4 Assault and Battery

Land - 22
4 Shivan Oasis
4 Geothermal Crevice
7 Mountain
7 Forest

The Infamous Kavu deck is something like 4-4 vs. online opponents. Sparkcaster almost never needs to be in play. Usually, it should cost GR, with 2 familiars, so play it cheap and often, adding counters to creatures, dealing direct damage, and drawing cards from Kavu lair. When the deck doesn't do that, it is a effiecient creature rush. Bend or Break is fairly good when Thornscape Familiar is in play, or a Geothermal Crevice is sacced to play it fast. It gets the job done.
