Just found this quite amusing...

From the magicthegathering.com Q&A August 2nd entry
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgcom/askwizards/0802

Q: "Will you ever bring Demons back to Magic? There is a fine line between Horror and Beast... but they are no Demon. I do remember an Unglued card made a joke about Demon crossed out as Beast. But a Beast is no Demon, and either is a Horror."
-- Lancer, cyberspace

A: From Brady Dommermuth, Magic creative director:
"Here at Wizards of the Coast, we believe in gentleness and love and smiles. That's why when our creatures 'fight,' they hug each other and make friends! We try to avoid icky, scary things like spiders, snakes, and demons. But be on the lookout for the following cards: Basket Full of Kittens, Lollipop Elemental, Bracers of Sparkliness, Circle of Protection: Cooties, and My Pink Unicorn Friend.

"So in short, we would never, ever, ever print anything gross like a Demon in a million million years. Unless it was a fun, happy demon. Like a Grinning Demon, for example. That would be super fun!"
Circle of Protection: Cooties...HAHA

As funny as it may be, this reply really frikken ticked me off. Big time!

They were given a serious question and just acted like a pack of morons with their response. They could have just said, "No, demons won't be coming back. We're too scared of the Right Wingers, so enjoy the 'positive' religious figures like angels."

I hear you guys on WotC avoiding the answer, but I feel like he had some fun with it b/c we all know the answer already. They admitted a while back that they took a lot of flack from various groups about card content and had to make changes. Do I like it? No, but you can't bust this guy for having some fun at the expense of a 6 year old contraversy.

In the meantime, be on the look out for your super-fun Grinning Demon/Basket Full of Kittens broken combo.

Still, after having their fun, they could have said something to the effect of, "...but seriously..."

I noticed that when it went up too, but I just thought the answer was odd. Yeah, a bit funny, but odd.

I actually felt the same SeFRo...probablly because I felt strongly about the issue. I mean, they can print a Wrath of God, but not demons? (Thats a different story though)

I think what you said is what they should have done, EricBess

You must remember - this is the Magic Creative Director...

He probably has a few meetings with MJ per day... Maybe they have a re-hab center at WOTC for people like this...

He could spend some time with the Keezerdrix and Orgg WOTC showed in the commercials. He'll wish he had his CoP:cooties then, won't he....

maybe it's just a hint that there will be demons in Onslaught, it's really hard to tell which way the sarcasm goes.

Some of the Onslaught preview pics are looking quite demonic tho.

like this "Grinning Demon": ;)

There may be a new artifact especially for this guy:

Toothpick
2
1,T:Remove target attacking creature from combat.

"(name of creature) was bothered by the goblin flesh stuck between his teeth all day. He just couldn't take it anymore!!!"

The CC and a lot of Christians who like everything but the thematic flub of the game would be antagonized by a return to the demonic. Also, Christians aren't the only group who call their god God (See Judaism, Islam, and even some yogic Hindu). Antagonizing a whole group is almost always a career goof. Besides, Demons are just a creature type and nothing is gained or lost by referring to them as Horrors (that is, leaving things as it is.)

I accidentally put this as a thread. Boo to me. It's meant to be a reply on 'Just found this to be quite amusing."

Well...the thread was actually about how dumb it was that the questioner didnt get a straight answer...

What bothers me about the lack of demonic stuff is that they include God stuff in there. I wish there were more Satanists out there (Which i've found out are actually quite benign) to complain.

I agree that if there are God references there should be demon references. Heck, throw in pentagrams and anything else ya like. There are a very few people that are very easily offended and, unfortunately, very loud about it. Screw them.

But, I hardly blame the guy at Wizco that answered the question. It's been goine over forever, and everybody knows they won't be printing any demons any time soon. Most likely, he's just as unhappy about that as we are, and is venting with a silly, sarcastic post about it. Kudos to him. I enjoyed the response.

Interesting thing about Wrath of God: In that Christian-themed CCG, Redemption, there's a card called Wrath of Satan that is very similar (it destroys all Heroes in play...sort of a half-Wrath).

Oh, and that demon is pretty cool...

Wow, they'll bother everyone else about it, but its okay for them to use demons? What double-standard freaks.

As to the whole Grinning Demon thing, it was funny how that turned out. They gave a hint hidden in a moronic joke. They keep giving stupid hints like this. Its as if that's all MTG.com is about, since they surely aren't about accurate information. (color wheel, anyone?) ;)

It's probably made by the more moderate members of the religious leanings...

And though it's a jolt to see some colors get stuff that used to belong to other colors, as it seems the color wheel is changing/evolving, of course past information would seem "inaccurate". But it's more "out of date"...
