Because of the recent David Williams DQ, this moves JohnO up to 8'th place at worlds!!! :D

(in other insignificant news, I got quoted on meridianmagic.com. :))

Most Excellent!

It would be kinda ironic of a Casual Players Alliance member took 1st at Worlds...

Actually, looking at it, it looks like the DQ took place after the quarterfinal rounds. Since it was a DQ without prize, the 9th place winner moves up to 8th place, but John didn't get to play anymore, he just got the prize as if he had taken 8th overall.

Once John get's back to a computer, he'll have to let us know where he's taking us all out to dinner on his $6,500 winnings ;) Congrats.

Umm...this may sound like a really stupid question, but who exactly is John'O?
I've gathered that he's a pro player, but what else?

Maybe we should all just wait around and let John himself answer that. ;) Seriously though, he is one of the few well known players that frequents the CPA on a regular basis.

I asked that same question when his name was first brought up and Gizmo and some others answered somewhere in the murky past of the forums... can't remember if it was here or in Decks though.

The day someone registered on the CPA takes 1st at Worlds will be the day the world's irony finally strikes me down. :)

JohnO is John Ormerod.

English player, pretty much the guiding force, alongside Ben Ronaldson, of the hugely influential Hampton Court design team -inventors of decks like Trinity, CocoaPebbles, and The Solution among many others. Also something like 4 out of 6 of the past English National Champions have been members of this team.

Randy Buehler called Hampton Court 'the centre of the Magic universe' recently because of the huge contribution that the team has made to deck design this year, much as Randy`s own Team CMU had done three years ago.

JohnO is also quite possibly the best deckbuilder in the world, and while he would vehemently deny this, isn`t entirely terrible at playing either. ;)
