Ideas for Mana Flare in MP

Mana Flare
2R
Enchantment
Whenever a player taps a land for mana, that player adds one mana of that type to his or her mana pool.

Does anyone have any general ideas on how to use this in multiplayer? I'm thinking I could put more higher cc spells in the deck and mana sinks like Mishra's Factory, and defensive type spells to hold off my opponents. My card pool is limited from Revised to Exodus.

I didn't put this in Single Card Strategies because it's more of a question rather than using it with specific other cards, but if someone lese feels it should go there they can move it :)

If you reallly want to annoy your multiplayer group play this combo:

Mana Flare/ Palinchron/ Fireball

Well, I definitely don't have Palinchrome since it's Urza's Legacy...

I'm thinking trying to use my Aladdin Ring and Armageddon Clocks, since they cost alot normally. Plus then I can use them in general :)

For some reason I have the perception that burn is sort of "cheesy" in MP; my kinda goal is to use some cards that I don't normally use and try to make the others think a bit.

Of course, if you remember what I said about the first guy who plays, that might just make me his target for the rest of the game :) Plus, he plays with simple creatures and some burn, so maybe it's not so bad.

The Pony Deck thread

This was a fun way to use Mana Flare, and it works in Multi-Player too. You'd probably want to add a few cards though, because the games tend to be a little bit longer in MP.

Could you try making a deck with Mana Flares
and Flashback cards?

Again, thanks guys.

TomB: Yours looks pretty interesting, although (for a quick review) this one guy hates token type generators. I might become his target real fast. :)

But then, I guess I'll have to try to kill him first and fast.

Isty: That's another possibility, I'll have to try it and see how burn goes over with the other players.

JohnO: Unfortunately, I don't plan on getting any new Magic cards (that might change, through buying or trading 'cause one of them bought a couple of packs). So all I gots is cards primarily from Revised to Exodus.

The idea is that it doesn't MATTER how it goes over with the other players. :D

Golden rule of Mana Flare: Don't forget the mana sink

Mono-red:
Team it up with Citadel of Pain, red X spells, Urza's Rage, big flyers and Chimerics. The Citadel of Pain forces you're opponent to tap out or take damage and the Mana Flare makes this more difficult to do. Earthquakes and the like can help get rid of any big ground pounders they drop, Big flyers give you a mana sink AND a big threat, Chimeric Staff gets huge off of Mana Flare and like the Idol is immune to Earthquake AND they get around the Citadel

Red / Blue - This has a lot of possibilities
Urza's block blue "untap target land" spells can provide you with a ton of extra mana working with the flare for all sorts of ugliness. You can use the MP friendle Illuminate, big red burn, Stroke, Brain Geyser, huge flyers and Capsize. With counter back-up of course.

Mana Flare/Memory Crystal (buyback is 2 cheaper) using Capsize, Fanning the Flames, Mind Games, Shattering Pulse (and Thran Forge), Whispers of the Muse and of course big flyers. This deck could be fun. Recall could probably come in handy in here too.

I'm actually mapping out a R/U deck for my group right now.
Mana-Flare/Prosperity/Iron Maiden is the kill. Using Blood Oath, Capsize, Big flyers and burn for back up. This type of deck you should be able to build with Rev.-Exodus cards.

R/G
Savage Twister!, Ivy Elemental (from Odyssey), Kraklin, Hurricane, Taste of Paradise, Nemata Grove Guardian, Force of Nature and other big creatures.

Oh yeah, and there is Mishra's Helix :)

Quick note on burn in MP: Before you gun for people's heads everyone will be appreciative of the Mana Flare. Until that time you can use burn to a political advantage on the table. Don't waste creatures just b/c you can, take out creatures that are a huge threat to 1 person (gaining you an ally) or the entire table (i.e. Mageta). If someone starts gunning for you just throw a 10-20 point Rolling Thunder at him and his creatures and he'll get off your back.

Hope these help get you going!

Those are some great ideas... I don't have any Urza's Block (well, I have some commons from the first set) but I'm leaning towards R/U, with some big guys like Shivan and Mahatami, some buyback spells, and burn and counters. But everything there sounds like a good start.
