IBC Idea

Not a complete deck list, Just an idea I'm mess'in round with

It's based around Warped Devotion.

It could be pretty nasty if it works properly. With Warped Devotion in play:
-Barrin's spite loose 2 cards
-Rushing River, loose 2 cards
-Recoil, Loose 2 cards

You get the idea. Any suggestions, Creature base, or otherwise?

Creature's 8
4 Dromar, the Banisher
4 Waterspout Elemental

Discard 12
4 Bog Down
4 Addle
4 Warped Devotion

Bounce 12
2 Distorting Wake
2 Washout
4 Rushing River
4 Recoil

Other 8
4 Opt
4 Fact or Fiction

Land 22
2 Plains
7 Swamp
9 Island
4 Dromar's Cavern

Um....no Washout?

You could add a couple of Specters for even more discard.

Geesh... how did I overlook Washout? That could cause them to loose a lot of cards couldn't it?

For your creatures, you could use:

Waterspout Elemental
Zanam Djinn
Blind Seer
Splash a little white for Dromar, the Banisher
Nightscape Familiar
Ravenous Rats

You might also want to use Bog Down, even if it seems pretty bad. With this, you want to empty your opponents hand as fast as possible, so that everything becomes a Desert Twister.

Also, no Repulse?

Ok, thanks

I'll use these suggestions and see if I can come up with something half way good.

I have a question about redundancy as far as Warped Devotion is concerned (Maybe I should post this in the rules forum). Is it redundant to have more than one in play? What I mean exactly is - if I have two Warped Devotion's in play, and I return one card to My Opponents card's to there hand, does My Opponent have to discard one card or Two?

Spidy,
Good, that's what I thought.

This deck type could be so brutal if You get it to go off quickly enough.
I don't see why this type of deck couldn't do well in IBC.
Has Anyone came up against, or built a deck like this?
I doubt I'm the first One to think of it (been try'in for a while and to date haven't come up with anything original). :) I'll keep at though.

Baskil,
Well... the only reason I didn't choose Repulse is that it only bounces creatures whereas Washout, Recoil, and Rushing River bounce permanents (maybe that's flawed logic).

4 Recoil
4 Rushing River
4 Repulse
4 Warped Devotion
4 Wash Out
2 Yawgmoths Agenda
2 Distorting Wake
4 Urborg Emissary
4 Opt
2 Worldy Council
4 Fact or Fiction
4 Salt Marsh
6 Swamp
12 Island

Maybe, probably weak, but very funny if it works.
Emissary has to be the best creature in this deck.
It seems to me that Devotion is a combo with bounce
not with discard, so there's no point putting bad
discard cards in the deck.
The huge hole here is that you really have to get the black
enchantments into play and there isn't a lot
of room for countermagic to protect them.

I see your point about the discard, John, and I am inclined to agree with it.

The once card that I question in the deck that you present is Worldly Counsel. Do you think you need that much card drawing? I would think that slot would be better taken with a non-fragile finisher, like Wasterspout Djinn or even Zanam Djinn (even if it is worse than Air Elemental would be in the deck).

John'O,
Yes, I see Your point, I like Your version better than My incomplete version.
What My logic was with the discard is that, the discard would be faster disruption early game (again, My logic is probably flawed :) ).
-Thanks

Baskil,
It does seem like a lot of card drawing to Me too, but John'O is a world class player. So... I think I'll try it both ways, His way, and a version with less card draw in favor of finisher Monsters.
-Thanks

hey. you're probably going for invasion huh? cuz if not. then put in some megrims. duh. 2 damage, for each card discarded. i especially like that. just a thought. you could also put in some um...golham djinn. those are wicked. they regenerate. hehe.

Why do you think Ancestral Recall got taken out of production so fast? Drawing cards is the ultimate in resource acceleration.

There's a REASON that my Type 1 control blue deck plays Treasure Trove. Drawing 1-3 cards at the end of each of my opponent's turns is good. :)

4 Recoil
4 Rushing River
4 Repulse
4 Warped Devotion
4 Wash Out

2 Distorting Wake

4 Opt

4 Fact or Fiction

6 Swamp
12 Island

I have lots of card drawing because
it looks like you need to find the black enchantments
to get the deck to work.
May be totally wrong of course because I have'nt
played any games with this.
Of course the deck might win more with some good finishers...
lets *imagine* a playtest

-2 Worldly Council
+2 Phyrexian Scuta

right now we work out that the deck wins
when it make Scuta and bounces everything in its way
so more Scutas

-2 Distorting Wake
+2 Phyrexian Scuta

You might at this point realise that
you would gain tempo if you made a creature
before turn 3.

-4 Urborg Emissary
+4 Vodalian Zombie

Now you have an early drop the Opts
aren't as good because if you draw Salt Marsh
and a 2 drop you don't get time to play them.
Also a fifth 2 drop would make us a bit faster.

-4 Opt
-1 Island
+4 Swamp
+1 Sky Weaver

Whee! Flying Scuta!
At this point you probably realise that your
deck wins/loses before Warped Devotion does anything.

-4 Warped Devotion
+4 Urborg Drake

Then that Agenda is now too slow as ou have less control cards...

-2 Yawgmoths Agenda
+2 Sky Weaver

and Wash Out does very little as your oppoent rarely has more than
one creature...

-4 Wash Out
+4 Undermine

and now you have a decent UB tempo
deck that probably wins far more the the original.

4 Recoil
4 Rushing River
4 Repulse
4 Undermine
4 Fact or Fiction
3 Sky Weaver
4 Vodalian Zombie
4 Urborg Drake
4 Phyrexian Scuta
4 Salt Marsh
10 Swamp
11 Island

But then its not a Warped Devotion deck anymore,
which is the reason I started with just card drawing,
bounce effects and Devotion , just to see if Devotion
could work.

Has anyone actually played some games with a Devotion deck?
How did you do?
