Humility

This is just a minor rant and it doesnt apply to everyone on the site. The reason why I am a member of this site is because of the high caliber of most individuals on this site. Through the fine work of our mediators and senior members, the site remains so. But my minor rant is that some people just don't seem to get it. Magic is only a game. It is also a game that has no real life applications. I don't understand where some of the big egos are coming from. I feel like I am back in highshool. ITS JUST A GAME. Another thing, don't pat your self on the back. It's makes you look like a gimp. If you want props we will give it to you if you deserve it.

Most of your statement is true. However, Magic does have real life applications if you put it in the right context.

In life you are dealt a certain hand(finances, credit, social standing, lifestyle, education, friends and relatives, etc...), through which you must make decisions(play the hand) that will determine the direction your life heads... The rest of the analogy you can guess...

I think the biggest "real-life" aspect of Magic is some of the problem solving and cognitive creativity that is involved in some combos or decks...

It also allows the natural or instinctive "competitiveness" in all of us to be played out - though not fairly as money does determine the cards in a deck, but not necessarily the play skill of an individual...

As for it being a game... it is just a game... or a hobby... and in many cases a business...

Those are my takes...

For me, Magic is a lesson in human interaction. You learn to deal w/ people playing different styles of decks and w/ different kinds of personalities. You learn to deal w/ them (or avoid them as the case may be). It's fun. If you're not in a game you can watch other people play (people watching) and find out how they deal w/ each other...

Me, its a way to have a good time with friends, or completely piss of enemies. I like magic because its not as tedious as YGO! (tedious as in having to buy the rares just to make a good deck sometimes) boring as DBZ, or as instinctual as L5R.

A good way to mess with this is if you play a game of junk diver.... Hey, its fun and it builds up your bluffing and strategy skills.

But, of course you think I'm just some wierdo who is half crazy and has nothing to do except use up money, and create mayhem all day. Heck, what do I care? I'm pretty boring if you met me, its only when you give me a sugar rush or interested in something that my real personality is piqued.

But thats something you'd never believe, so I'll chuck it into the lies bin.

You all make good points. And I do concede that it is a good way to flex the old brain cells. Thats why we all enjoy it. Just wish some people would stop talking smack...Ever play against some one who won't stop talking even after they lose?

It's the nature of people. You'll find good people as well as people that annoy you. You just learn to hang out w/ the good ones and avoid the annoying ones...

I have and it's just more fun to hear them say they lost because they didn't drew what they needed...

I then let them know they should shuffle better...

I do hope you find some players to treat you better...

If not, do you live in the Baltimore area?...

When faced w/ an all-rare deck (save for basic lands that are all foils) I love hearing "I'm sorry that you can't build a deck as good as mine"

I so love those guys! They usually have these little "smack in the face" strategies that are intended to take on n00bz or higher end players. Usually it involves (on average) 6 turns to get their deck working. That means that as long as they can't call upon a lot of creature stopping power, I'm sending them on a one way trip to never-never land with my 4th turn shadowbuster.

Fun how a deck with only 2-3 rares can topple a deck thats all foil raries.

"Oh boy, all those foil cards are shining in my eyes, better call upon the shadows...."

You have some good points. Though, the folks here at CPA are some of the best folks. As much ego as you think there is here, look at "pros" and see how a-hole they act. Hell, tourneys are places of pure a-hole behavior, but they still act like they're some sort of ethical bastions of righteousness...

bleh

Its just a game. We're all geeks. We all wear the same, porous, skin that disintigrates under sulfuric acid when its put in the sprinkler systems and some jerk named SeFRo lights a molotov and throws it onto the Feature Match table...

Get along before you die.

IT is a bit off topic but I think foils are the bane of magic. Most people keep thier foils in nice neat binders. I dont. Foils are worthless and I don't think wizards of the coast has realized this yet. When left alone under normal conditions, foils will start to bend in on the face side. You folks try this at home too. I discoverd this after leave my mirrodin cards out on the table for one day. Pissed me off. Im going to go get those nice plastic covers for my foils and try to trade them off for anything...maybe if I am lucky I can get non foil versions of my cards for them.

They curve because the back absorbs air moisture and the foil face doesn't. If you keep them in a dry environment, as you should, they'll flatten back a bit.

I agree, though...foils are truly useless. In fact, I would call a judge and demand that an opponent's foil be replaced with a normal card if it curved. Crimping cards has been a cheating mechanic for ages, and foils crimp by themselves.

Too much moisture in the air and they actually curve up like tortilla's.

As someone who has used foils a lot (even a whole deck of them) they bend under ANY circumstance, not just moisture. Crappy thing is, however they get bent--especially shuffling--they tend to stay that way, even if you try to counter-bend them. Argh!!!

Even in cases, they get all bendy and useless. The only way around it is to use a deck of all foils, so that any bend from the deck getting a little played with is reflected through the whole deck, and not just a few marked cards.

Phflehhh...worthless foils!!!

Thats the exact reason why I only look for specific foils and get rid of what I've got.

Now to get rid of this foily 8th Persecution....

I do that all the time...

Except with CPA guys - If I have a foil you guys want I usually just throw it your direction as an even trade...

A foil Humility, especially with the old art, would be quite tempting. Now why can't we get a special reprint set like chronicles which would showcase select cards from past sets in the new format.

Great idea, but very unlikely to occur.

Oh, and I am still looking for those stupid urza's land foils...
