we have the freedom of speech, and you "founders"(as you like to call yourselfs) take it away, when you think that something is not apporpriate. that is crap. if someone doesn't like it, they dont have to read it. they can just ignore it. you dont have to close the thread, and punish people, because someone doesn't like the damn thread

Uhm. Yes, they do have the right to take away our freedom of speech, because the CPA is THEIR property.
It's like walking into a store and calling the manager a f***er. (Sorry DUke. ;))

But....
If they abuse the power, we can always leave.
They don't gain anything.
And with a freedom or right, there always comes the potential to abuse it.
Ed and company have to guard against that.

Sometimes what's practical is more important than what's moral or legal. :rolleyes:

First off, they have every right to do it.

Second of all, they have never abused the power. Every thread they have closed has either been stupid, spam, or full of offensive material. Would you have wanted them to leave that old battle thread open?

Keep in mind that they have this website because of the kindness of http://www.magic-singles.com If they allow profanity or other offensive material to stay, magic-singles could close the site. And discouraging spam is important. If this site becomes nothing but junk threads like Zero's, above, no one will come. They are acting for the good of the site.

When they close a good thread, I will be mad. Until then, I completely support the thread closings they have done (as if they need my support).

By the way, I must say that threads containing profanity like you use above are more likely to be closed. If you don't want a thread closed, don't swear. It's not that hard of a concept.

Oh, and I eat puny newly appointed admins that dare violate my threads.

the only thing I have to add is the reverse is true, Riva: If you don't like the rules, you can leave. No one's forcing you to log on here.

Also, I'd like to point out one more thing in defense of the Founders. I have, more than once, received requests from users for certain threads to be closed. I went to the thread in question, read it over, and about 75% of the time, proceeded to close it because it was innappropriate. Likewise, I occassionally get requests to edit someone's post for language. I almost always do that.

The two closed threads in this forum (they're right near the top right now) were both closed for good reason. One, for being inappropriate. The other, on the request of the person who opened the thread, and because it was pretty useless as a thread. (Go ahead, argue with that. :) I dare you.) So I closed it.

I don't think this is 'power abuse.' We try to keep the place clean. You may have noticed it a bit more recently, as we've taken on some additional Admins, but my point is clear. We don't censor anything that is appropriate or useful. Also, I'd like to say, the PM requests _can_ work the other way. If a thread has been closed and you feel it should be open, PM one of us with a few good reasons. There's a chance we'll reopen it. It's not very likely, as we'd have already found the thread to be worthy of closing, but there is a chance.

(Side issue: 'Founders' is no longer an appropriate term for all the Admins. :) The regular guys outnumber the original Founders! Anyone got a suggestion for a new term?)

...where did you read that I called the store manager a "f*****"? In my article? I didn't say I called him that, much lessly, I didn't call the STORE MANAGER anything. I perfectly said that I was talking to one of the storeworkers, not the manager (which is the owner). The manager just decided to "butt-in" and tell me to shut up.

As for this Riva issue. All I have to say, is when you read a thread by Riva, make sure you don't take it seriously, because clearly, he has no idea what he's talking about. You, youself Riva, behave like a child, and you want us to keep your threads alive? Tell me why...

Zadok: I think what you have now is fine (if I'm understanding you correctly). You have Founders and then you have Admin Assistants.

Why is this being discussed any further it can be summed up like this Riva the founders own this website and can do whatever they want whenever they want, because its theirs(not to say that anyone is being a dictator, i think you all are doing a fine job :) )

Freedom of speech is kinda a funny term isn't it?
Makes for lots of good arguments and such. I personally don't think that freedom of speech is a right. I think that freedom of speech with responsibility is a right. Note the word responsibility, without it all you have is educated anarchy.

Most everyone acts with the responsible version, we speak our minds if needed and get our points or views across as best we can with out swearing, spaming, or verbally assaulting someone else.
We have the right to say what we want about what we want, but we don't have the right to assault, abuse, or detriment someone elses rights by what we say.
Above the right to freedom of speech we all have the right live in peace.

Take that to the philosophical grindstone. :D
