Help! What in Invasion is worth a damn.

I did not get a chance to go to this prerelease. Also, things are tight this month, so I can't buy my regular 3 booster boxes. So, I'll be buying more singles then usual.

So...since spoilers are never quite as nice as an actual players opinion, I ask you this. What in Invasion would you sugest I buy? I have not so much as seen, let alone played with an Invasion card yet, and I value the opinions of my fellow players here...

...well, most of them any way.

What kind of stuff do you like to play? Off the cuff, I'd recommend getting Fact or Fiction, Sterling Grove, the Black removal cards (most are very good in this set), Plague Spores, Frenzied Tilling, Dismanteling Blow, Armadillo Cloak, Charging Troll, the uncommon dual lands, Mage's Contest, Kavu Titan, Kavu Chameleon, Blurred Mongoose, Crypt Angel, Hanna, Molimo, the big treefolk guy with kicker: put x 1/1 saproling tokens into play, Elvish Lord and the gold common 2/2s. Very fun set for casual dueling and multiplayer decks, but not a lot of sanctioned constructed standouts like Destiny or Saga.

I'd go for Verdeloth, Molimo, the Dragon legends; especially Treva, the Renewer a big life gainer, Hanna, Armadillo Cloak pulled me out of a bunch of binds and it's only a common so that's good, Urza's Rage would be good if you could ever afford the kicker, the dual lands, the cameos dual color artifacts, and that's about all of the really good cards I can think of off the top of my head.

Since everyone's being so damn cynical right now, I'll try and actually DO something with the set rather than bash it. Why? Because that's how you're supposed to play Magic...wait, gotta stop...ranting...me...post...new...threaaaaaaad...

Start with the basics, start with the mana:
The new duals are very nice. Not as fast, but without any pain. The cameos are even better. you won't see me playing with Diamonds or Ramos's body parts for some time. Quirion Elves are back, and the Utopia Tree is a second turn Bird of Paradise.

Next are creatures:
Skizzik is the creature standout of the set. Kavu Titan and Jade Leech are also pretty good. Molimo is downright scary (Dakkon Blackblade with trample). Hannah is the next utility legend. There are 5 gold protection creatures. Then there's Blazing Specter.

Other spells:
Lobotomy is reprinted, and Recoil supplements it very well. Wash Out is a nasty blue uncommon. Do or Die is a great black removal card, though not as good as the ones from past sets. Tsabo's Decree is also good. Fact or Fiction is the best card drawer since Stroke of Genius. There are a lot of cute cards.

What colors are you looking for Rando? There's litle to work on if you don't tell us. ;)

I play all kinds of deck types and all colors. I really don't have a favorite, maybe white if I do. So, I just want everyone's opinion on what cards I should bother buying. As I said, looking at a spoiler is one thing, the opinions of the lads and lassies that have played with the cards better.

If you play green, definately consider Elfhame Sanctuary and Pulse of Llanowar. These cards were definately game-changers at the Pre-Release.

Utopia tree is worth a second glance
Obliverate is fantastic
Planar Portal is good, I tell you!
Elfhame sanctuary provides anti-mana screw.

Well if white is your favourite, it's gotta be harsh judgement. If it just prevented all instant/sorcery damage or the chosen colour it would be mean, but to send it back home makes red basically useless (at least, the way our group plays it).
If white weenie is your style, consider the one that reduces all damage to three. By attacking with lots of small creatures you're losing nothing, but they can't pound you with molimo/multani/BOB etc when you're defenceless.
Mageta just got even better with death or glory, as you can clear the board, send with a gang of chimeric idols, then get back half your critters plus maybe something big you threw to mageta's activation cost.
Finally, Reya is just incredible. Bringing back your best creature each turn undoes any removal they've used earlier, but she will be a damage magnet. If you can keep her alive, game breaking in a drawn out slugfest...

I would suggest uncommon and commons as your target of "must gets." After all, most Tier 1 decks are made of 60% commons and uncommons. There are many great non rares in Invasion, they are just waiting for you to slip them into your deck.

Of course the most noticeable non rare cards are the Dual Lands and spells like Scorching Lava, Blazing Specter, Charging Troll and that Black discard card which I forgot the name.

Remember, most of the time, a deck's biggest problem can be solved with just a simple non rare card.

Hellion is right, some of the most useful cards are not rare...but blazing specter is.

Recoil is a must-have.

Also, I think that everybody needs a nomadic Elf.
