I've been lurking a bit now and then, but am not "on the boards" nearly as much as I used to be. As is such, I've noticed quite a few new names, and caught wind of a few stories that suprised me.

So...

Do you remember the post I made, way back when, where I asked if I was a freak because my hobbies went in cycles?

Well, right now I'm out of my magic cycle and heavily into warhammer 40k. I spent over $300 [and people call magic expensive] on a new army and have been painting and modleing religiously, and playing a lot of games. I have not touched a magic card in at least 2 months.

After a while, as I said in the thread that got me my nick-name, my interest in warhammer will fade and I'll find my way back to magic, and thus, back here.

...see ya then.

That's okay. I'm in between Magic AND Warhammer AND computer games (although the latter has more of my interest).

I get on here because I like shirking work :)

My brother is a die-hard 40k fan. Both of us learned both Magic and WH40k, and then we drifted our separate ways. He always got better dice rolls than me.l ;)

But I Hate Warhammer 4000. My friends in ELEMENTARY SCHOOL tried to get me involved, but I didn't see the point in paying $3 for 4 little plastic land mines.

BTW, 300 posts.

You see, I also don't have time to paint the damn things, stupid homework. Besides, nobody that I know of plays Warhammer.

The more you paint, the faster you get. I've been painting minitures for about 11 years now (started out doing the character mini's for my D&D group) and I can crank 'em out about 1 per day.

Lowe and behold though, there is a company that has [finally] started selling pre-painted minitures.

I can't remember the name though, but I saw an example in a dragon magazine ad, and they don't look bad.

I hate painting the things too. I can usually do one in an hour but I haven't played so long that I lost the motivation.

However, I just played my buddy this past weekend to get acquainted with the new rules and I might be motivated again.

It costs probably a good $100 to get started (unpainted) but after that, once you have it, you have it. More is good for variety but it's not all that different from Magic, investment-wise.

Much like magic, it costs as much as you are willing to spend on it.

Also, you don't have to buy the highly over-priced Games Workshop mini's. Many "generic" companys make minitures that work as stand-ins. This works especially well for the more "ordinary" armies, such as the Imperial Guard. Also, it seems that every miniture manifacturer, from Grenadier to Palidium to Ral Partha makes space orks.

Of coarse, if you use stand-in mini's for your army, you would not be able to participate in Games Workshop's "official" tournaments. But, they are so unnessassarily and unreasonably strict, that they even ban some of thier OWN minitures that are out of production from being used in one of thier tourneys.

...the blood-suckers. They really are a pain to deal with, from what I've heared, especially if you are a shop owner.
