Yay. This year I get to be completely alone with my parents. The great family tradition for New Year's Eve is to play board games for like six straight hours (I don't mind it usually. Some board games are good fun.), and I don't think it'll be too great with only three people.

No, he only came home for about a week starting on Thanksgiving. And my older sister is in New York for some party and my little sister went to some annoying kid's house.

See, Sven, this is why you need to make some friends.

I myself am about to go prepare some fried rice for a feast...

being kicked out of a high intel area is my little feat for the last of the year.

Anyone want to buy some stock in a company which will no longer exist at the end of the year?

Yep, cool drawing.

So what'd you end up playing, Svenmonkey? Maybe you guys should play some wargames like good 'ol Risk or something :)

That isn't that old Warmaster game (with the likes of Axis & Allies) based on the Roman Empire, is it?

Not only do I have it, I also have Fortress America (another Warmaster game). I used to have Broadsides but thought it was the lamest one so I didn't keep it. :)

That's actually what we ended up playing. The Lord of the Rings version of Risk.

train: For play right now. Just waiting for people to come play it (like you, for example :) )

Svenmonkey: How is that version? I have regular Risk and was thinking of getting LotR version. Is it just the same but in the Middle-Earth setting (and the pieces equal 1, 5, or 10 units), or is there more army types and uses?

You can play it in a variety of modes. You can play normal risk just using the alternative setting and pieces, you can play with the ring of power being moved slowly to Mount Doom, and the game ending at that point (each player totals his or her points and the most points wins), or you can play in a variety of other modes I haven't tried yet. There are also action cards that give you more pieces in certain areas or block bridges or prevent attacks in certain areas and suchlike. And there are also strongholds and leaders, strongholds adding one to the defensive die roll in a certain area and leaders adding one to the die roll on whichever side they're on. It adds a whole lot of weird mechanics to the game, which are sometimes confusing, buy you get used to it after playing for a while.
