Thanks and more thanks!
My birthday was uneventful, what with my having to work and all (first time in a decade, but my job demands my attention until I get my backup supervisor fully trained) so I tried to have a nice week.
Treated myself to 3 new DVDs (courtesy of Blockbuster's 3 for $25 used movie deal).
They were:
The Butterfly Effect: awful; even worse than I expected
Bad(der) Santa: nice, but not as fun as I was hoping
Spellbound: a documentary following 8 kids on ther quests to win the 1999 National Spelling Bee; oddly enough, easily the best of the trio, recommended for anyone who likes non-fiction films. The super-geeky kid reminded me so much of myself at that age, I grin every time I think about it.)
I also spent the week playng
Fight Night 2004 on XBOX more or less obsessively. Beating Jake LaMotta in a 15-round decision for the World Middleweight Championship is now a dream come true. Cool game, by the way, if you like realistic boxing games. Best gameplay ever in the genre, though the incidentals (ring approaches, commentary, etc) left a great deal to be desired. Here's hoping that the 2005 version takes all the good and jazzes up the rest.
The best part though was getting to talk to my little brother for the first time in a couple of years. He's spent a lot of time overseas (Kosovo, then Iraq) and we'd fallen out of touch.
Thanks again for the nice wishes.
