Howdy y'all!

Just got access to a public terminal here in boot camp in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and thought I'd thought I'd stop by and say hi. Not sure when I'll be able to post again, but I thought I'd see how everyone was doing...

take care and be safe...

Ah yes, good old Fort Leonard Wood. (Dad was in the Army.)

The wonderful housing there, row after row of identical houses that so confused me (at the tender age of 7) that I once rushed into the wrong one demanding my dollar for the ice cream truck...

Then I demanded to know who the strange woman there was, and what happed to all of our stuff...

Hope you're having a WONDERFUL time! :D

Good Old Lost in the Woods Misery. Yes I was fortunate to never have to go there though I was in an engineer battalion. I was in supply at the time. good luck.

Things aren't so bad at the moment. Since I've almost completed boot camp I can go to public internet terminals (at a horrible price) and poke in and say 'hi' to the wife - and see how youse are doing...unfortunately, I won't be reunited w/ my computer until at least late April.

Boot Camp has been kinda' crazy since I'm the oldest member of my company and I'm surrounded by kids half my age that act just like those annoying kids you see playing Yu-Gi-Oh at the local gaming shops (you can imagine). Still, I'm hanging on. I hope everyone is hanging on wherever they are. I'll try to keep in touch...

I was in the US Army?

I did my boot camp at Ft. McClleland, Alabama in the Spring of '87. I was 23 at the time and I was the second oldest. The oldest guy was like 30 and we called him, "Grandpa".

The Gas Chamber is one of my favorite stories:
We all had several lessons on how to properly don our gas masks and what the gas chamber routine would entail. We had to wait for the gas tablets to be dropped (CS something or other) and then put our masks on and then wait a minute or two and then "Drill Sgt." would come in and ask each of us to recite our name, rank and serial number.

Well, I was a little nervous and didn't clear my mask properly and inhaled a large portion of the gas! The Drill saw this and asked me first to recite in order to get me out of there quick. But I couldn't remember my name let alone the other stuff so he screamed instructions to me that sounded like; go out the back door and turn towards the steps. So, I go out the back door and couldn't see because my eyes were watery and I banged into the big tree at the bottom of the three step porch. I feel over holding my head, I couldn't see and the worst part was all the gooey snot pouring out of my nose like a rain storm.

It was terrible. Later I over hear at the chow hall from some cooks talking about some idiot smashing into a tree at the gas chamber. Hoiw embarrassing.

Maybe next time I'll tell you about the firing range when I was with the 7th ID Band. :D

Boy, you're not as old as I thought (but still older than me :) )

Ferret: So you haven't gotten singled out for anything? What's the attrition rate so far in your group?

I haven't been singled out per se, but a lot of the people w/ more "eccentric" senses of humour have flocked to me. It's fun to know that I have my own little fan base...

So far, I've learned to fire an M-16 and throw grenades (barely). Boot Camp ends in a couple of days, but I'll be going straight into AIT where I'll learn to be a Chemical Soldier. It should be interesting. We'll be focusing more on academics than physical ability, so I should be able to shine instead of just look mediocre...

"...another plus, is that I should be able to logon more often..."

Hey Ferret!...

Glad to see you back... and then gone... i guess...

If you're going to a different training camp, would you mind PMing the address to that camp...

Have you shot anyone yet - beaten anyone with the battle-sticks?!... any of those fun things?...

I'm still at the same location - same bed even... I'm going to be here until April 23rd (or so) and then I'll be off to whatever duty station they send me to (still don't know yet and it's kind of frustrating not knowing).

I've already qualified w/ an M-16 and grenades and have gotten chances to fire off an AT4 Rocket Launcher, a grenade launcher, and a fully automatic machine gun - from what we've been told, we're going to get chances to use even bigger weapons as well smoke generators (BIG ones!). The first week of AIT was a bit tedious, but things are getting better....hope to be someplace w/ my PC soon so that I can post more often and go back to playing Magic...I'm falling behind on expansions again...
