Gotta Brag About This!!!!

Well, about 4 weeks ago, I was at work, waiting on tables, one of the guys at one of my tables told me I had remarkable people skills and gave me his card if I wanted a job. Well, I was in the middle of moving into this new apartment, and had a lot of other things going on, so I did nothing for about 2 weeks. Then I called him. He offered to let me come tour the facility and talk with him about the job details and income potential. I figured it was nothing more than another "commission only sales position" so I said ok, but really was not too hyped up about it. I get there, and one of the first things he does is pull out a piece of paper titled "Sales Apprentice Scope & Compensation". He goes over it all. It involves a considerable salary, possible commisions, a "fuel and auto allowance" of a considerable amount, even considering the current fuel prices, and a company owned Blackberry Phone.

So, as of right now, I am no longer employed at a restaurant, and will be starting this position on Monday. I am under a RENEWABLE 6 Month Contract, and when a higher position opens up in a year or two, will be the first one considered for a permanent position (with a higher salary, better benefits, and more commission offers).

The most exciting thing of all...the hours.

M-F 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

No Weekends, No Holidays (even things like Colombus Day!).

Wooo Hoooo for me.

Basically I am going to be a consultant. I assess an industries warehousing needs from the point of safety and productivity, and then pass that along with a company profile (number of employees, type of products, hours of operation, etc..) to my employers sales staff, who then try to fufill those needs.

This includes (but is not limited to) Material Handling machinery (forktrucks, pallet jacks, etc..), Maintenance Equipment (floor scrubbers, Scissor Lifts, etc...), Racking/Shelving (From the racks themselves all the way down to the post guards that keep forklifts from damaging them), and pretty much anything else that keeps a warehouse running as far as equipment goes. It also includes offering safety, maintenance, and operations training (I don't actually do the training, I just set it up with our San Antonio Office).

It is a great opportunity, and I kind of lucked into the position (I think God was lookin out for me on this one!).

If I knew any. However, since you can afford school, a computer, and internet at least, I can assume you are not starving...yes?

I'm starving right now, I haven't eaten breakfast yet. AND, I can only afford those things thanks to loans and assistantships.

that's not too bad. Consultants do little work for what they're paid to do usually.

A rather significant step up from a waiter, though.

I was expecting some kind of commission only Sales job, thankfully that is not at all what I will be doing!

I was expecting him to convert ferrets to the dark side and rule the world.

Were my expectations too high?

Yes, because he is not my father. I also just got my company issue blackberry today, and was told that I pretty much have unlimited use of it. (I think we split something like 60,000 minutes a month between the company. That is a lot of minutes. The walkie feature is free, as is the email!)
