Hey guys, I'm just getting back into the game. I quit playing during 4th edition and got rid of my cards. A friend of mine gave me a deck of time spiral for christmas and now I'm feeling the need to get back into the game. Where do I start? I am looking for a box of boosters to start off with. What do you guys suggest? I thought about the core set 9th edition but I found a box of Saviors of Kamigawa for cheap which should I go with? How about 8th edition? thanks

Welcome! Glad to see that you're getting back into the game!

If you're just looking to play for fun, then my suggestion would be to buy whatever boxes you can find cheapest. However, if you're looking for some nostalgia, the newest set (Time Spiral) has a lot of reprints in it that you may recognize.

Welcome back to Magic.

When I got back into Magic, I started with Standard. At the time, it was 8th Edition, and Mirrodin block was coming to a close, followed by Kamigawa block.
Currently, Standard consists of Ravnica block and Time Spiral as well as 9th Edition.

And as Ransac said, Time Spiral has many reprints.

Speaking of which, has anyone seen the Black Wrath of God? Its in Planar Chaos. Check Wizards's site. That is on my wish list for sure. :)

Black Wrath of God? Sounds like it might be okay, but who needs it? We already have Nevinyrral's Disk... :p

You know, everyone is saying there are eight Wraths in Standard soon. Apparently, no one remembers that particular Magus. Heh, are any damn cards going to stay on the board?

The real question is whether or not this represents a shift in the color pie? If so, plan on Wrath of God not being in 10th Ed.

Good to see that you're getting back in. See if you can find someone with lots of extra commons from the expansions you want :)

Yes, yes, welcome back to the fold but my question is how'd you hear about us? Some magic players have never stopped playing since fourth ed. and have never even heard of the CPA. Glad you found us though,...again, welcome! :)
