Getting back into the game

I'm getting back into the game after being out for a few years, playing Magic Online mostly, and I've missed quite a few set releases. I like to play black decks mostly, but I picked up Golgari Deathcreep and Dimir Intrigues starters from the Ravinca set to play around with some of the new mechanics. I was messing around with dredge, transmute, etc. and I was wanting to get some ideas on some good additions I could make to either of these decks to give them some more pop.

I'm still getting used to the abilities and what not of the newer cards so I'm not up to date on what works good with the new stuff. I was just wanting to get some ideas on some good sets that have good cards that might fit into either of these decks. I'm also always looking for good black cards. I've played with Megrim decks in the past and black decks that have a good amount of discard, kill creature, and direct damage type stuff in them.

I also saw some of the new abilities in the Kamigawa set and they look cool too. I was thinking of maybe making a Ninja deck later on when I get some more of those cards. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Not really sure how I can help, but here goes:

If you have the Golgari and Dimir precons, the most logical set to look for additions is Ravnica: city of Guilds because thats were both guilds are featured.
If you are just looking for good black cards, you'd be better of looking for them on ebay or some online/real life cardstore.

If you want help with your decks, you should post your modified versions.
(Ninja's were in Betrayers of Kamigawa)

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply! Ya, I guess that would make sense that any additional cards would need to be from the Ravinca set. I will probably change it up with some Megrims, Diabolic Tutors, Haunting Echo, Chainer's maybe. Never really messed around with any type of blue decks till now because I don't like counterspell hehe. I'll mess around with it a bit and I'll post it once I get it setup how I like it.

When playing blue, you are not obligated to play countermagic :)

Jeremie,

I'm in the same boat. I played very extensively from just after Arabian to Mercadian.

Coming back has been rough. There are just so many cards.

Look at it this way: It's a game that you love and already know the rules but it's fresh and new.

The guys here have been very helpful. You can help them help you by formulating your ideas into a decklist and posting it here with some commentary.

Good luck. I look forward to trying to help you.

Ok, here are two decks that I'm currently using:
Blue/Black
Mono-Black
I've added some of the newer cards to the black one, but it's pretty much using a lot of the cards I had when I stopped playing. The Blue/Black is the one I'm working on trying to get it to be more stable, because it's up and down right now. I was thinking of changing it over to a control/urza-tron deck I had seen, but getting cards like Meloku and Keiga is pretty expensive even online. Plus I'd have to get the Urza lands and some other lands that are rare so maybe I'll work on getting that built in stages. Ya, this is what I'm using right now so any advice is greatly appreciated!
