Once you get a couple Sapphire Medallions out, you can play a Peregrine Drake (cheaper), untap 5 lands (and gain some mana), tap them again (gain some mana), Capsize the Drake with buyback (cheaper) and then play the Drake again. You can eventually gain tons of mana this way and either Stroke for the win or bounce everything through Capsize and keep them locked down.

Usually when you "STROKE" for the win - your opponent just concedes... ;)

fallen empires and all of the older sets are esential to some of the strategies that have come as an offhand gesture towards ascention in duels.

Hey - I'm kidding - one of the best deck ideas is Thallids...

Note - I bought 5 total boxes of Fallen - now that was a little much!!!

I think I got around 2 boxes but since that was the first expansion where WOTC really cranked out production, they were everywhere and I was picking up packs for $1.50 or such... :)

Sapphire Medallion doesn't touch buyback costs. That's why I was originally confused what you were doing.
You do need High Tides, or Memory Crystals.

If you ask WotC, you will be told that Sapphire Medallion does pay for buyback costs.

It does reduce buyback costs. The Medallions reduce the total play cost of the spell, including buyback, kickers, and X-costs.

And High Tide would be pretty good in the deck. It would allow you to go off faster because you won't need as many lands in play. I'd save room for at least 3 High Tides.

(- Steve- )

PS: By the way, I have an Internet connection in my room again, so I will be on much more often.

Wispers of the Muse would be good with the Medallions, as would just about any other 'untap X land' cards like Time Spiral or Palinchron (which quickly goes infinite with High Tide).

Also, Thawing Glaciers would be nice to help you thin your lands and power your X spells, and you can untap it with a Drake.

Consider the often overlooked Distorting Wake as well.

Nice idea with the glaciers MM... but if that's the case you could also use the Soldevi Excavations... and any of the lands that produce 2 mana at once... coral atoll I think...

Heck, Tolarian academy would rule in this sittuation...

I could have sworn that back in the day the medallions didn't affect buyback costs... Guess they changed the ruling.

heh heh.. fine with me...

They used to stress the Cost to Cast and Casting Cost... That's what you're remembering...

Got Coat?!!!... and Flashbacks?!!!

seems to us that the guys at the type 1 are going to get a "kick" out of the strategy...
