Gain Life Like You Mean It

No, no, no. See, THIS is how you do a lifegain deck.

3x Test of Endurance
3x Alabaster Potion
3x Heroes' Reunion
3x Nourish
3x Renewed Faith
3x Isochron Scepter

2x Sterling Grove
3x Wall of Essence
4x Wrath of God
3x Aladdin's Ring
3x Moment's Peace
3x Well of Lost Dreams

3x Krosan Verge
2x Elfhame Palace
10x Plains
9x Forest

It's fairly straightforward. You want to imprint Heroes' Reunion or Nourish on the Isochron Scepter, and start gaining life like a madman, ultimately passing your Test. Renewed Faith gains you life and a card, and I just *had* to drop an X spell in there with Mirari's Wake.

Sterling Grove is there, of course, to protect and/or find Test of Endurance. Wall of Essence is there as a lifegain-leaning blocker, and Wrath, Ring, and Peace are there to slow or stop attacking hordes. Well of Lost Dreams is a gimme in this deck. And the mana base...if you don't understand that, you probably haven't understood anything else I've said either.

What would be really neat is to work Words of Worship in there somewhere. Imagine replacing a card draw with 5 life, then drawing 5 cards from Well of Lost Dreams...sexay. :D

i think you could do better than the rings...

Abeyance, or Invulnerability may be good to look at... Even Orim's Chant...

Abeyance or Chant on the scepter is a lock...

Alabaster Potion! Aladdin's Ring!?

Do you just hate yourself? Take out the Potions for one more of each Reunion, Nourish, and Renewed Faith.

Wall of Hope > Wall of Essence
Life Burst > Nourish

Personally, the best life-gaining spell for duels that's I've played is Ancestral Tribute. I play 1 in my token deck that uses Quiet Speculation and I gain 20-40 life off of it. It comes online just in time to save me and pushes my life total far above 20 again. I spend 1 card and 1 turn undoing my opponent's last 7 turns of beatdown. It also has synergy with Quiet Speculation and Holistic Wisdom. I've flashed it back only once, though.

I personally like stupid ways of gaining life or Spirit Link. Exalted Angel, Emissary of Hope, lots of Angel's Feathers, Contemplation, and cheap buyback spells.

Orim's Chant is a one-shot. If you don't have a Scepter ready for it, it's like a Fog more than anything else.
Life Burst is only better than Nourish if you DON'T imprint the first one you draw. I don't want to wait for my second copy of a spell to imprint it.
Why is Wall of Hope > Wall of Essence? 0/4 > 0/3...
Alabaster Potion is a good X spell that works great with Mirari's Wake. And trust me, Aladdin's Ring can be nasty, especially against things like Mishra's Factory that essentially have Protection from Wrath. I've used it to great effect. Nevermind that if your opponent hasn't been gaining life and you just can't find a Test, it's a five-turn clock.

Mirarri's Wake would be great in this deck... if only it was in the deck:

3x Test of Endurance
3x Alabaster Potion
3x Heroes' Reunion
3x Nourish
3x Renewed Faith
3x Isochron Scepter

2x Sterling Grove
3x Wall of Essence
4x Wrath of God
3x Aladdin's Ring
3x Moment's Peace
3x Well of Lost Dreams

3x Krosan Verge
2x Elfhame Palace
10x Plains
9x Forest
When you have a key card in your deck, sometimes it is important to actually put it into the deck.

Don't knock the Shotgun. If your deck can support it, the Shotgun is pretty amazing.

Really, Really amazing.
