What a great article! Dear Friggin Rizzo, thank you for reminding me again why do I play Magic. Now instead of:

"Why do you have to come back home again this weekend? Don't you want to stay on campus? Besides, what are you doing there every frickin' weekend, anyway?"

"Err, well, remember that game I told you about, Magic the Gathe... "

"Ohh, HMMPH, Cough, THAT... ok, no more questions...."

it's gonna be

"I told you, I'm going to PLAY MAGIC. You got a problem? At least I have somewhere to escape to from this day-to-day wake up, go to class, study, work, drink beer routine. Can you say the same?"

Lol, he's talking about recent Britney blunder at Rock in Rio 3 music festival. She was backstage, and wasn't aware the the mic was on, so she was cursing and babbling, and everyone in the audience heard that :D

Okay, I'm settling down...

I put it much the same way when I arrange to have Monday nights off from work, to play with the local group, who play pretty much exclusively on Monday nights, due to having other things to do with their lives throughout the week.

It's

Boss: "Why do you need Monday nights off all the time?"

Me: "I play a card game called Magic and it's the only night the local players can get together regularly."

Boss: "You need off to play cards?"

Me: "Yes, please."

Boss: "A card game?"

Me: "Yeah, you know... some people play tennis, others bowl, I play cards."

Boss: "Well, okay."

Then again, maybe my boss's easy capitulation had something to do with the fact that I am clearly "outside the norm," and worries that it might be dangerous to upset me too much...

Fellers,

You guys got it. Follow your passion and damn the friggin' torpedoes. In other words, I may be a nerd but I have something that keeps me alive.

Play for you. Because you want to.

John Friggin' Rizzo

And thanks to Chaos for the front page link. It's much appreciated. I'd thank him personally, but I'm not sure how, as I got an F in 8th grade Computer Literacy in, wow...1983 or so!

Wow. Dead on. And written with an intensity that shows you really care about it... kudos.

And I love that Britney quote... never thought about it the way you did, though.:)

Magic rules. My girlfriend was actually reading over my shoulder while I read that article, Rizzo. :) She was amused that Magic people wrote about things that had no direct relation to Magic (but neither of us were complaining). Congrats on another wonderful peice!

(That B. Spears .mp3 is hilarious, by the way...)

Everthing is going according to plan.
There's nothing to worry about, sir.

It's true, in regards to Chaos Turtle's post... there's nothing different about setting aside time for Magic as there is for other recreational activities.

FrigginRizzo: Not sure what you mean about thanking personally, but you could send a Personal Message (PM) to whomever by clicking on the link on the page where all the forums are listed (it's at the bottom).

I have to disagree. I think Cog and Zog was a terribly misleading article and Wakefield's worst. For him the "ideal" of the perfect human being was to integrate himself online and merge with his Asheron's Call character... I'm sorry, this is just morally wrong IMO.

Here's what I replied to it back then and I still stand by it:

I can't read your reply, but I'm assuming it's on the same lines as what you made in your post.

Arhar... you have to read the disclaimer. And then think. Really think. First off, Wakefield wasn't playing Asheron's Call at that point. So he wasn't thinking of uploading his brain into the character. That is just silly, regardless. Read Zog through the year 2020. It's pretty obvious that after that, Wakefield isn't being totally serious.

He said, in the discaimer, that he was being totally stereotypical. That he was using the most extreme stereotype he could. Did you skip that part?:) He's operating under that stereotype. No gamer is really like that. Likewise, nobody's life is as pitiful as Cog's.

All Wakefield is saying is that it is good to be a gamer. Because you have a passion in your life that gives you something to do when everything else is gone. That's it. Nothing else. You can't take the article too seriously, or read to deeply into it.

My family, my wife's family, my students at school, they all know that I play Magic on Thursday nights. My band booster president, though, keeps asking me how money did I win the last time I played.
Q about Ms. Spears? Are they real?

...to answer your "Q'bout Spears"...nope. They're not real. Sad, isn't it? :D

Another "Q" about Spears: what's the title of that MP3 zadoc was reffering to?

PM me the answer, please.

How did this degenerate into talking about Spears?

And not to be crude or anything, and no one really has to answer, but is there an "official" source (like from the surgeon, Spears herself, etc) saying that they're real or not real? Or is this just "general accepted public opinion" (which doesn't go for much, in my book)?

<getting ready to move this Off-Topic....>
