Hey ya'll! Sorry for my pessimistic attitude as of late, some real bad things have been happeneing in my life:(
But enough about me, lets talk about the point of this thread, besides it being the only decent off topic thread in weeks, Dungeaons and Dragons;The movie. I saw the preview before watching Red Planet (Ok movie.....)
No offense to all you D&D players, but it looked pretty dumb.
Has anyone else seen it?

I love D&D. Played it for 10 years now. But, from the moment I heared whisper of the movie I cringed. I figured it will be stupid/dull/silly/childish/cheesey...et cetera, and as such I had planned to wait until it came out on video.

...if I see it then.

I saw a commericail for it on tv.

i saw a commercial. The spec fx look really cool. I don't know anything about the plot, but the came is really cool.

i think that it is going to be gay. i have been playing d&d for about 8 years now, and if you think about it, they have to make the movie viewable for kids too. which means it's going to be gay as hell

Anyway, I saw the commercial. The plot sounded dumb, but the SFX did look realy cool.

...I never heard of the movie...I don't play D&D, but I think it's cool. Has anyone seen the movie?

Given the way the movie market works, special effects is all it takes to carry a movie, regardless of plot, or lack thereof.

Take Starship Troopers, for example. Fans of the book saw the advertisements and cringed. Many stuck it out and saw the movie anyway, generally hating it for the travesty it was. The target audience, however, loved its special effects and female characters. Based solely on violence, no involvement with the characters, sex, and great special effects, Starship Troopers made oodles of cash.

Another example is Independence Day. If you pause to think of it, the entire premise is absurd, as is the plotline and characterizations. Special effects, however, rocked. It made how much?

There is an attractive woman in the film. There is violence in the film, and there are great special effects in the film. In addition, it has a name already familiar to many people. Considering the advertising blitz (ads for D&D in Maxim magazine, among other "cool guy" magazines), people will flock to the first film, if only to see what's up.

My thoughts.

I saw the trailer at http://www.seednd.com or http://www.dndmovie.com , I don't remember which one, and I must say it looks AWESOME!!!

I wasn't so anxious waiting for a movie for a long time now!!!

The actors -

Thora Birch - I saw her in "American Beauty" and she's beatyful!!! And can play, too! Plus, brunettes rule!

Marlon Wayans - I always liked that guy, he's hilarious, especially in that movie about the hood, if anyone remembers :)

A guy from "Die Hard Part ?" and "Lolita" - well, that guy is a serious guy. He'll make a great villain.

Plus, all the promises that they'll stay true to the spirit of the game can't be for nothing!

Hopefully, this movie won't be a terrible dissapointment, like Highlander Endgame.
