Evil little trick...

Using Cunning Wish to pull a card from your sideboard: Helpful.
Using Cunning Wish with Mirari to pull a Cunning Wish and another card from your sideboard: Fun.
Using Cunning Wish #2 with Mirari to retrieve Cunning Wish #1 and another card from your sideboard, then using Cunning Wish #1 to retrieve Cunning Wish #2 and another card from your sideboard, until you've used both wishes and the Mirari to pull your sideboard into your hand: Priceless.
Realizing the same trick works with Burning Wish: Just wrong. :)

Well... theres a reason why cards are in your sideboard. Its because you dont want them in your deck. In any given matchup probably no more than say 3/4 cards AT MOST in your SB will actually be gettable with the Wishes AND playable.

Id rather just stick a Jayemdae on the table and draw more of the cards I wanted in my deck to start with.

But the reason the sideboard exists is to "tune" your deck more for games 2 & 3 when you know what you're facing after game 1. So the Wishes would help get those cards (which I agree would be a small percentage of your sideboard; I don't think you want the whole thing).

And of course, you're not drawing land :)

Unless you make your sideboard an extension of your deck, so you have 75 cards total but keep the land count the same as 60 so you don't get mana-screwed...

I think that the wishes will probably not be as broken as people think. Ring of Maruf has been around forever(in Magic years) and how often was it used. I think it is a great casual card but I don't think they will make it into tournament play. It would cause you to revamp the way you look at your sideboard. see Randy Buehler's article below. I have to agree with at lot of the points he made.

I think they are all pretty marginal.

They have the potential to be made into true silver-bullet decks, however.

Good point in Bueler's article about the sideboard, that if it's a normal one, after the first game you probably wouldn't have reason to get anything else. I guess that's when you swap out the Wishes for the actual sideboard cards :)

Don't forget, they also get removed from game cards too, so if you add that angle, perhaps they have a use beyond the sideboard angle.

Like flashback stuff retrieval (Fervant Denial), or retrieve a card removed by fiend, lobotomy, etc. Not a "Great" use, but they do offer further uses, Also Bizarre of Wonders, Force of Will. . .

But I don't recall exactly how the wishes are worded, costs - types they retrieve- etc. You could think of a wish as a "limited" unrestricted tutor (albeit an expensive one).

If Bueler is correct in that the Wishes can only be used to retrieve cards from the sideboard, then actually you can't recurse them since they themselved are removed from the game. I guess we'll have to see how they're worded.

From what I've read, Wishes at the tourney level can be used to grab either a sideboard or removed from game card, so they could be recursed. Unless of course that is false.

Cast Cunning Wish getting a CW from the SB.

Cast CW getting the CW in the removed state, use Mirari to get an instant from SB or RfG zone. . . .

I can see using it to grab a CS when needed, or also with RfG effects, like Yawg Agenda, Misch Fiend, Butcher, Lobotomy ...

Is there anything cool you could do with recursing CW? I mean skip the Mirari, just keep casting one CW to get the other, I suppose, Ack, Blue Lucky Charm. eww. U stream of life at instant speed for 1U with medalians or familiars. OK, really bad example, but does U even need that possibility? No.

Well, in his article, Bueler said:

We knew right away that we would limit the options to sideboard card when the “Ma'rufs” got played in tournaments
so.... I guess we have to wait for the FAQ or something.

Maro posted thie following cryptic sentence in his article on wishes from mtg.com:

In casual play, this card can come from anywhere (and I do mean anywhere) including cards that started in your deck but were removed from the game. In tournaments, the wishes are restricted to cards in your sideboard or out-of-play cards that started in your deck.
What are "out-of-play" cards which started in your deck? That sounds like removed from game cards to me.

Istanbul is right on the monkey, here.

Rake in that cash, and know that noone'll ever actually use that in a Pro Tour.

But just try to pull it out of your oink at your table, and see how everyone likes the binder [s(trike through)]in your hand[/s] that is your hand.

[Edit: it seems that we've lost the "Strike-Through" tag in the past three years. -Orgg]

That's right. That includes stuff like creatures removed by Swords to Plowshares or stuff that was removed by a Phyrexian Furnace or stuff that removed itself from the game on resolution, like Time Spiral and Nostalgic Dreams.

So we have two WOTC employees saying different things, one who appears to have worked on the development of the cards (Bueler) and I don't know how much Maro was involved.

Like I said, we have to wait and see ;)

And what were "Strike-through" tags?

Straight from the Judgement FAQ -

In DCI-sanctioned play, "a card you own from outside the game" is one of the following things: (a) A card you own that's in the removed-from-the-game zone. It can be in that zone for any reason. (b) A card that's in your sideboard. If you get a card from your sideboard, you must put the Wish into your sideboard instead of just removing it from the game. This makes sure that your sideboard has the correct number of cards in it at all times.
What isn't mentioned, and I presume doesn't work, is a card in the "currently being played" zone. I suppose that makes sense because it would be "in the game" at that point duh. So you couldn't grab a Fervent Denial which was played for it's flashback cost until the FD resolved (thus removing it from game). Also to clarify something else I mentioned earlier which may have only been a question to me, Spells being cast via Flashback are removed whether countered or not. So I'm thinking Cunning Wish is a good deal with a Bazaar of Wonder's deck, as long as the graveyard is clear, it even removes itself so it won't be countered.

I got it in my DCI Judge mainling list, not sure if it's released globally yet. I think I'm allowed to post it now, it is quite lengthy.

I'll clip it and send it later, you want it as an article?

Although since the Prereleases have now come and gone, perhaps it's up somewhere on the web that I can just link to... :)
