Elf Necrodeck

I've always loved the card Necropotence. It occurred to me that a fun idea would be a Wellwisher Elf deck with necro. Nothing gains life like the Wellwisher, and with Necro, life=cards, and since this is a green elf deck, oceans of mana also goes with the territory. Green has enough tricks like the Joiner Adept to get 3 Black, and with Priests of Titania, Piles of mana to cast the piles of cards you're drawing with. The early version of the deck was a little brittle, and adding Impulse helped make the deck a lot more consistent. I eventually abandoned Necropotence for Yawgmoth's Bargain, which does largely the same thing for a cost of 4BB. One less black actually makes it easier to cast, since 6cc is nothing to an elf deck. The final piece of the deck was the addition of Fires of Yavimaya. With Yawgmoth's Bargain and Fires of Yavimaya, its not difficult to put my entire library into play in one turn (and win that turn for that matter)

Here's the deck:

Elves: (33)

4 Llanowar Elves
4 Wirewood Herald(to fetch Wellwishers and Priests of Titania)
4 Wellwisher (life=cards)
4 Priest of Titania(the Mana to cast 20+spells in one turn)
4 Joiner Adept(rainbow mana)
4 Seeker of Skybreak(to untap Wellishers and priests for more ridiculousness)
4 Heedless one (getting all 4 of these, along with them having haste and putting every elf in the deck into play in one turn, think about it)
2 Gempalm Strider (all elves get +2+2, and they're all in play)
1 Elvish Soultiller (just in case I need my Elves back)
1 Voice of the woods (for the sole purpose of further piling it on)
1 Taunting Elf (only need one, again piling it on)

Spells (11)
4 Yawgmoth's Bargain
2 Fires of Yavimaya
4 Impulse
1 Vitalize (just think about it)

Land (19)(as of now would be better with some others I'd imagine)
2 City of Brass (maybe forbidden orchard would work better?)
2 Salt Marsh
2 Waterveil Cavern
13 Forest

The deck runs like this. Get out the Bargain, draw a pile of cards. get elves into play popping the wellwishers as needed. With Fires of Yavimaya, time to go crazy, and put every Elf in your deck into play. Tap all the ones you have left for as many elemental tokens as you can grab, cycle any leftover gempalms(make sure you leave cards in your library for this). Cast Vitalize, untap everything, and attack with 4 Heedless ones, a bunch of 7/7 trample elementals, every elf in your deck and all of their creatures block the taunting elf.

Its a little silly, but thats the fun! It runs enough like a generic elf deck to hold its own even when the engine isn't going. I haven't tried this yet, but I would imagine this would work even better in multiplayer. Shouldn't have any trouble killing any number of players in 1 turn.

If by "largely the same thing" you mean "something much better" then yes.

This is quite an extraordinary concept for a deck, so I'm not sure what would work well in here just now...

I agree. This deck is weird, and even I'm not sure really what needs to be in it. The only thing I know needs to be there are the Wellwishers, Priest of Titanias and the Yawgmoth's Bargains. Anything else is up for debate. I will say that the Wirewood Heralds, Heedless ones, and the Fires of Yavimaya seem in there to stay though.

There's no cause for it.
I'd play Wirewood Channeler, so that you can make red for the Fires and black for the Bargain and blue for the Impulse.

I'd actually prefer Birchlore Rangers to Wirewood Channeler in this deck. I only need 1 Red or Blue, or pretty much 1 extra Black in this deck. I don't really have much use for X=Number of elves in play nongreen mana. At least not at the time I would put a 4cc Elf into play.

Another great card drawing engine for elves is Recycle, even without Allurens (they're too expensive for me).

Recycle Elf.dec

4 Llanowar Elves
4 priest of titania
4 wellwisher
4 timberwatch elves
4 Wirewood Symbiote
4 Multani’s Acolyte (card drawing)
4 Wood Elves (land searching)
4 Viridian Shaman (artifact kill)

4 recycle
4 hurricane (kill condition when you gain oodles of life and can generate oodles of mana)

4 Wirewood Lodge (elf untapping)
16 Forest

Wirewood Symbiote is multifunctional, it lets you untap and play your elves again, so you keep drawing cards with the acolytes and wood elves or with recycle in play. You can bounce an elf with it during everybody's turn. That way you can recast your most interesting creatures again and again.

I had some crazy turns with this deck and with hurricane it can take out all your opponents at once very soon in the game.

A surprisingly good draw engine I've found with Elves is Sylvan Messenger (Brass Herald). If you make your deck extremely Elf heavy (like 40+ Elves in a 60 card deck) Sylvan Messenger is like a walking Fact or Fiction.

I use 4 Wirewood Heralds, 4 Sylvan Messenger, 1 Fierce Empath, 1 Caller of the Claw, 1 Viridian Zealot, 1 Elvish Aberration, 1 Kamahl, Fist of Krosa, and 1 Brass Herald as my toolbox. Kill with Kamahl or Timberwatch.

Be sure to include the most powerful Elf ever: Quirion Ranger.

The 10 Forest, 4 Land Grant manabase can easily splash a color if you own even a single Taiga, Savannah, Tropical Island, or Bayou.

The single best card I've found (from playing old Extended) for an Elf deck is Armageddon. Turn 2 or 3 Armageddon is absolutely brutally good for the Elf deck. Your biggest fears are Perish and Pyroclasm. I like the strange Absolute Law against Red decks because it's cheap, offensive, defensive, and they're completely screwed when it hits the table.

may i just remind you that watervil cavern is the CHK U/B land..........what does that help? by any chance where you goin for Lantern-lit Graveyard (the B/R) or pinecrest ridge?(R/G)

maybe even doubling cube for some mass mass mass mana, or, soul foundry for the preist or well wisher?

I use the Cavern because I need Black and Blue more than I need Red. I need Blue for the Impulses and Black for the Bargain prior to the engine going off. I usually cast Fires after the engine goes off, dropping a Joiner Adept followed by fires. This occurs after my initial drawing of 10-15 cards, and Fires is simply there to keep the engine going by allowing Wellwishers, Priest of Titania and Seekers of Skybreak to tap and use their abilities to keep me in Life, Mana and Cards until I've gone through the whole deck.

I don't need red until way later, and thats why I'm not packing any. Fires is the card that finishes the combo, its the last piece of the chain.

Glimpse does the trick too.

I never had problems casting Recycle. 8 mana elves and 4 wood elves make sure you can cast it. Sometimes it takes a while, agreed, but most of the time you can go almost infininte right then.

*puts glimpse of nature on wanted list*
