Dune Echo: Thoughts on 5-Color?

I guess you didn't see or pay attention to this thread where it was mentioned that 5 Color supporters seemed to be having problems? What's your perspective?

Plain and simple:

The 5-color players he talks about in the article would have had the problems even if the weren't 5-color players, and their actions are not indicitive of the behaviour of other players.

Of course, 5-color does make it quite easy for people to bend the rules in (who is going to really deck check 250 cards to see if they have 5 Incinerates?).

Are you implying that people who enjoy a good game of Five are "Like Mike"?

I know for a fact that I don't cheat, but I will admit to getting permission from my opponent to simply mill all the land I draw when I Mana Severance insted of taking thirty minutes to take out all the land and then shuffle up.

I'm just a bit confused since (I think) the article was saying that these were leading proponents of 5-Color, not just players of the format, and so it looks a little weird.

... and that's when people start asking me questions!

To my best knowledge, I haven't seen anything on the 5-Color Mailing list to indicate that there is anything of major interest through this situation for the 5-Color players. Obviously, "Mouth" is still alive.

My current thoughts on 5-Color though... Judgment! The new Wishes are seriously strong and probably going to be automatically restricted. Morality Shift (the one that exchanges your graveyard for your library and shuffles your "new" library) will most likely be banned.

Also, Morality Shift will single-handedly make Mortal Combat possible in Type II. Whether or not it will be good is still up to debate.

In the future everyone, don't be afraid to PM me if you want me to take a look at something. I don't get out here much lately, but I'll be happy to answer 5-Color questions.

I'm pretty sure that everyone is referring to this:
On a side note, this adds to compouding trouble that 5-Color players and representatives have been having this past year.

Current World Champion Bob Maher, Jr. was suspended for six months in January, while in the same incident, Jason Mougney, former Madison resident and 2000 World Champion took a five year suspension.

Ed Fear was already suspended when he took third at the 2001 World competition, and founder of 5-Color, yours truly, was involved in a little "misunderstanding" in Tampa, Florida last month.
Bob won the last 5-Color Championships. and Jason the one before. Ed is obviously discussed above. And Kurt was kicked out of a tournament before it even began in Tampa Florida. It was on the Sideboard, but I don't have a link.

5-Color is still strong at the moment if a little quiet. I think the Extended season kinda wore some people out.

So did I misunderstand what that was saying and it just means that those people mentioned were title holder in regular Magic formats and not 5-Color? I guess when it said that "5-Color players and representatives were having trouble this year", I took all of those titles to be under 5-Color.

I didn't PM you 'cause I thought more people might be interested in reading the response, but I could PM you to draw attention to the thread next time :)

Yeah, I think that "Mouth" was a 5-Color player too (never heard from him on the list though) and that several "prominent" 5-Color players have been screwing up. But as far as I know, the Voting Committee for 5 is still alive and well and playing. They aren't banned from 5 because it's not an official format.
