Disc Golf

Ok, was wondering how many of us have experienced this new up and comming sport. It is basically a version of "frisbee golf" like we played as children (some of us) except they have actual baskets with chains instead of just hitting the marked tree.

My first time I went, I was totally clueless. I got there early and was thinking to myself, Look at all those dorks out there with their bags and multicolored frisbees. Wow they take this too seriously. Then all of my friends showed up with thier bags full of the same multi-colored disc's. I felt like the dork at that point. However, one of them let me borrow a couple of his to use, and then I found out exactly how hard it was to do.

I now go out at least 2-3 times a week and have gotten to be kinda average (shot 4 over par on 18 holes today). Not sure how this sport got started up, but there is actually a pro-series now.

Anyone else here play? And what type of discs do you like?

I don't know how "new and upcoming" it is, but my alma matar has had a course like that for at least 5+ years now...

Yeah, I played once in 1997 or 1998 when a few friends were bitten by the disc-bug..... I'll stick to regular golf, it's harder and I suck at it more....... hmmmm.... that doesn't make sense...... maybe I'll try it again......

I've played. Not seriously, but I have a few discs and I do okay. It's probably worth pointing out that the discs are nothing like frisbees. If you were to throw a frisbee the same way you throw a disc, it would drop about 2 feet in front of you because it isn't designed for the torque that is generated.
