green has all the elves in magic, but those of you who play RPGs know that we missed the evil little dark elves or drau elves whichever
any way i'd like to come up with ideas for black elves for magic, and feel free to throw in any other cards that might fit into a set built around elves

Last I heard that term was copyrighted to TSR, which doesn't mean much since WotC owns TSR... The oldest literary term I'm familiar with is Schattenaelfen (Shadow Elves) from the ancient germanic myth which drifted over into Scandinavia to become the elves of Nifelheim, though I forget their name just now, but it most assuredly is not "Drow."

I picked up the 5th edition of the Magic Encyclopedia and there's a bit in there about cards that never were. One is an evil elf that almost made it into Unglued but the art was to dark and serious for the set so it got dropped. I can't help but wonder if it'll turn up in a future set.

They can copyright it all they want, I'm using the old literary version.

Actually, how can they copyright it? It's like me or my company copyrighting the name Beowulf. It's impossible, right? Any legal experts have any info on this?

But I think if they "coined" the term (it has never been used before) and/or it's proprietary to their products, they can copyright it. Like most company names are copyrighted (I think): Coca-cola, Xerox, McDonalds, etc...

Beowulf has been around for a while so I think it's common domain.

Hey, you call them whatever you want. I have no idea why you knew that, but I didn't need to know that. Every other gamer in the world who's played and amount of D&D calls dark elves "drow". Copyrights be damned, just change the spelling if need be.

Whew, sorry about that. Didn't mean to jump at you, but it's been a loooooong day...
