damn replinish.....

i hate replinish! that deck is the most annoying deck in the world, and has answers for like everything. i can handle being comboed out 3rd turn by bargain, at leaast a lone counterspell for their will stops that, but getting all my land and creatures removed 4th turn is just too much. plus, anything you try to do is easily stopped by waving out their own enchantments. god i hate that.
i was just sorta wondering if anyone else has a deck that is the bane of their existence, like replinish is mine.

Well, A single scour on their opulesence would kill kill, seriously. They would have no way to kill you. I was at a jss yesterday (took 3rd, again :( ) And the repleninsh guy lost to negator black. I also believe that magpile can beat it.

i know replinish can be beat. but scour is useless. unless the replinish player sucks, you will never have 4 mana on your turn until you are dead. draw-go style blue does beat it, but i hate the idea of playing a crappy deck when there are such other cool decks out there. and speed black goes about 50/50 with it.
i wasn't posting this so much as a rant. i wanted to hear from other people about the deck that maybe a friend of theirs plays that just makes them want to quit magic when they have to play it. replinish is like that for me. it's the paralax cards that really make me hate it. i didn't mind it UBC style, or before nemesis, but the paralax cards just are too unfair.

Winter Orb and its ilk.
I hate playing against these things. I can beat them but it really drives me nuts to play them.

As for Replenish. I have a replenish deck right now. Its actually absurdly easy to beat once you figure out how, especially if you can get a Tranquil Grove or Serenity out.

god, now this is turning into a replinish thread. anyway, an enchantment doesn't stop replinish, they seal of cleansing it. creatures get waved, artifacts get sealed, lands even get tided. the only thing that is safe is what's in your hand. it has an answer for every kind of permanent. it isn't unbeatable, but it definitly is not easy to beat. draw-go is the only deck that goes better than 50-50 with it. suicide black is about 50-50, and anything slower looses (including stompy)

hmmm, I played a replenish deck yesterday, and got beat. I wasn't really that impressed by the deck, not like i was the first time I faced Bargain (I think we all remember our first game vs. bargain). Anyway, I was playing ponza, which is supposed to be a good match up agianst it. I'll give you a little tast of what happened. BTW, my opponent was probably one of the best players in my area, and he has Q'ed for the jss campionship 4 times, and knocked me out 1.

Game 1- He wins the die roll and goes first. I lock his up with two ports, and start blowing up land. I've got this game won! As usual, my bad luck kicks in, and i top deck lots of land. about turn 9 or so, he finally replenishes, and kills my keg w/ 3 counters on it, dammit. Then play opalencense next turn and beats for 26. I wonder where my tectonic break is, and i find it was the next card. One more turn and i would have won :( . I wish i had some topdecking skills.

Game 2- I side in some scalds and flashfires. hehehehe. I am chilled on turn two, and that's pretty much game.

the point I'm trying to make is that ponza does have the capability to beat it. Ports can definitely slow their growth while you look for an answer for their threat. My advice would to be to lock down their islands at the beginning of the game to prevent attunment, etc.

I despise just about any deck with Blue in it. Blue has become really boring to play or play against. It really only has 2 ways to win - Morphling, and the combo du jour.

Blue used to interesting, but somewhere along the way it just became too annoying and predictable.

Maybe this will change when Urza's (broken) Block rotates out. The pirate deck seems pretty cool, but of course can't match the power of the Morphling deck. Maybe when Prophecy comes out, it will be possible to play a MM Block Pirate deck.

I'd be interested to see what a T2 Fish deck could do to Replenish. In a deck with fast weenie creatures and a healthy dose of countermagic (Miscalculation could do wonders against Replenish, since it's typically cast as soon as possible), I think Fish has a decent chance of beating it. I also think that it could take on Bargain with its mix of fast pressure and anti-Feasts (Quash that Feast...oh, is that game?).

Sometime soon, I'm gonna post a T2 Fish deck, and I wanna see what people can do with it. :)

I played Replenish the other day at Friday Night Magic...I love it...And I got into the final four...I was 3-2 for that day...But the losses came from the same person, so I really wasn't that upset...He Helixed my lands and I did pull a Mystical Tutor or disenchant, so I was screwed...

But I did beat Ponza really bad...I didn't see much of anything of the deck...He just destroyed some lands and it was 2-0...Well, he did get out a Masticore, but of course that was taken care of...And there was scald, but that didn't really hurt me

And I played against 2 green decks which was easy...Although one guy had Choke out and it stalled me out a few turns...But nothing I couldn't handle...*grin*

I hope it wasn't a type II tourney, choke is not T2 legal.
Anyway, you said Helix gave you a problem, could you be more specific as to what your opponents deck was that beat you?

Well, the guy who played choke was John the judge...Green weenie...

The kid who was using the helix was playing German Tinker...One time, in the finals, I did pull a disenchant...But, next turn he tinkered for ANOTHER Helix...Who plays with 2?

Well then, John the judge was being a very naughty boy and deserves a slap on the wrist.
Choke was not reprinted in 6th Edition.

People who want to win when their opponent`s cast a Disenchant, perhaps?
Actually, I think you`ll find two are standard.

I guess this is just a replinish thread now.
to answer all these "well, i saw replinish lose a round the other day" posts;
yes, replinish can lose. so can jar and academy, but i don't think anyone would argue that they weren't way too good. no, i'm not saying replinish is as good as either of them, but it is definitly good. the point is, replinish wins way too high a percentage of it's matches. the decks that beat it aren't great against the rest of the field. i find that all the top 8's and 4's contain at least one replinish deck, and ussually a couple more. the other decks are ussualy anti-replinish. this is not a healthy field, as it is really defined by only the dominant deck. nobody likes that. i have a replinish deck, but i don't like the "if you can't beat them, join them" philosophy. i feel dirty when i play the deck, even moreso than with bargain

so to recap; yes, replinish can lose. no it's not the best type 2 deck ever. yes it has bad matchups. no it's not fun to play.

yes, it's too powerfull.

I was reading an article written by Adrian Sullivan on New Wave and he wrote about a how Con-Troll can still be viable. Anyway, he suggested a sideboard with Harmonic Convergence, Reverent Silence (a Nemesis common, alt casting: opp. gains 6 life: destroy all enchantments.), 4x Annul. It's not a guaramteed solution but it might work, I'll find out tonight!

Tonight I'll be testing out Cursed Totem against Replenish. If you can get the Totem out, then if they get an Opalescence, their Waves and Seals do nothing. (Of course, if they seal it rather than Replenish, ya got nothin'.) Also, your own Opalescence to follow up the Totem ensures that Opalescence will be out there to do its job.

That of course is just to have four land after they Replenish so that I can Scour their Opalescence.
