OK, when this "group" enters... I'll cast sleep on them... From then on out, I'll throw daggers at the ritual dude...

(If the sleep is successful - will target chanter with bows...)

Spidey - Is there a description of the room other than what we see in the middle of it?...

** Kurik is melee-ing with Rondo against the chanter dude

Si'Nat, Cugel, Patrick, and Bertrem wait expectantly for the door to open. Which it does not this round, so that just leaves the melee...

Rondo's axe hits the chanter but is stopped by the armor underneath. From the now-rent in his robe, it looks like he's wearing plate. Kurik's blow misses.

The chanter dude says a different series of words and points to Kurik. A black darkness covers his eyes and he cries out in surprise, "Where did he go? I can't see!"

Round 3 - Party has initiative.

As the others keep watch on the door, Rondo furiously swings his axe. This time, his blow hits the chanter and continues through his armor, carving a nice slice between his neck down his breastbone. The man falls in a spurt of blood.

Round 4 - Despite Bertrem's efforts, the door bursts open and a troop of ugly humanoids come through, carrying various weapons and shields with a red eye painted in the center. Waiting for them, Patrick releases his Sleep spell. All of them tumble to the ground in response. However, a wolf comes charging through right behind them. Si'Nat and Cugel loose their arrows - Si'Nat hits but Cugel's flies wide. Rondo turns to meet this new attack and again connects solidly with his axe. The wolf is bleeding but shows no signs of stopping. With a growl, it attempts to bite Rondo but misses.

Round 5 - Party has initiative.

I'll take care of the sleeping "beauties"...

Probably better at that then pestering the chanter w/ thrown daggers anyways...

If the chanter dude seems out of it Rondo will turn to melee with the wolf, but if the chanter dude is still a threat he will continue to attack him and will forego attacking the wolf for a round.

** Sorry if I was unclear; the chanter dude is dead from your mighty blow :) That's why I had you fight the wolf - otherwise, I would have stopped the combat there to let you decide who to fight.

Si'Nat

(I'll release another into the wolf...)

"Bad Dog!..."

(Once killed off - will slit throats of those not done by Patrick... and then I will take interest in the mace the chanter had... also checking for magical components, books, etc.)

Si'Nat and Cugel continue firing at the wolf, although with a -2 to hit because of the melee. Amazingly, Si'Nat's arrow passes between Rondo and Kurik and hits right in the throat! The wolf drops like a stone and then suddenly blurs and the figure of a woman appears in its place.

Patrick has cut two throats during this time; Si'Nat comes over and helps him finish the rest.

The mace is quite ornate, with a pattern of little red eyes in the handle.

You don't find any spellbooks or components though.

You see that the room is 30' square, with you coming in the west 10' of the north wall. There are two doors in the south wall, one in the east 10' and one in the west 10'. The "reinforcement" came in through the door on the west 10'.

** A note, I was reading the Expert book and in the spell section, it does appear you can disrupt spells if you make a successful hit on the caster before he has a chance to cast it

(Are the humanoids recognizable to us?)

"I say we head to the west 10' first... Let's clear out this palace... Is someone getting that sword or not?..."

(keeps bow ready for more surprises...)

Goes over to Kurik, and studies his condition for a second. Then exclaims...

"Well, it appears as if he has been affected by a spell. But not to worry, it will wear off after a few turns. I think we had better wait here and take stock of things while this 'Darkness' spell wears off."

Starts going throught the Clerics pocket...

Well, Si'Nat has already gone through his pockets and didn't find anything. But to be sure, Bertrem also goes through his pockets and finds nuthin'.

Okay, will then look at the sword.

Spidey, did I recognize the chant he was performing on the sword when we walked in?

The sword seems to have been entired carved from some giant ruby.

You didn't recognize the chant specifically, but from the symbols and circle, you surmise it might have been a summoning spell.
