Crossroads - Logic Puzzle

The R.Frost poem made me think about the following problem.

You are in the desert at a crossroad with tracks leading out.
One leads to the desert and a certain death.
The other leads to the oasis and the possibility to survive.

At the crossing sit two twin brothers. They cannot be differenciated in any way as they completely look alike.
However, one ALWAYS lies and the other ALWAYS tells the truth.

They both know which way leads to the oasis.
You are allowed to ask them ONE and only ONE question to find out the way to the oasis.

What do you ask, and how does the answer tell you which way to choose ???

I'll let you think about that guys.
The first one to find out wins a price.
If you know the answer because you were asked b4, please refrain :)

thnx and good luck

I've seen that one several times before, actually. Don't worry, I'm sure someone will figure it out soon:)(but I'd guess that most people have heard this one before.)

That's where I first heard this one. Personally I'd kill one, ask the other If the first is dead, and if so which way is the oasis. Then if he said the brother isn't dead, he's the lier and I go to the opposite path. HA HA, I win. And if I don't, I cast create water (D&D spell) and live until I find the damn oasis.

The CORRECT answer, not the one you want, (I know the real one, too, butI am refraining, besides, mine is better)is:

First I grab my sword and stick it up to brother 1's throat and say "Okay, which one leads to survival, and don't try being mr. cute and going for that always lies thing, because I'm taking you with me so if I die, so do you, got it?"

I know I've read the puzzle before but I forgot the answer. So I'm waffling between refraining and figuring it out :)

I have an answer that, while technically correct, is not what is 'usually' considered the answer. Here it is (backwards):

'?seY' yas eh dluow ',sisao eht ot yaw eht taht sI' yug rehto eht ksa ot erew I fI

If the answer is 'Yes,' that's the wrong way. If it's the right way, either person you ask will answer 'No.'

the fact that you took the time to write it backwards does not reflect well on either your social life or you sanity, Zadok.
