Crosis Goes to Edison

I'm planning to bring this to my local PTQ come Sunday, and any help would be appreciated.

4 Shivan Reef
1 Crosis' Catacombs
3 Mountain
4 Islands
4 Salt Marsh
4 Urborg Volcano
5 Swamp

2 Pyre Zombie
1 Flametongue Kavu
4 Nightscape Familiar
1 Crosis, the Purger

3 Urza's Rage
3 Exclude
4 Undermine
2 Spite/Malice
4 Fact or Fiction
2 Lobotomy
2 Prophetic Bolt
2 Void
2 Planar Despair
3 Prohibit
1 Fire/Ice

Things that might need some explaining:

Planar Despair - For some reason, this works. The sheer amount of cards you'll be flipping from FoF always allows you to get a domain of at least 2, and that's all that matters. The local format has about 20 billion 2 toughness creature and no 3 toughness ones. Other than the Hippo, assorted Dragon Legends, kicked Titans, and the occasional Jungle Barrier or Volver, everything in the format dies from this. All the Bears, Mongeese, non-kicked Titans, Snakes, Mages, Tappers, Lynxes and so on die to this. Put simply, it's usually a Rout in these colors. This may simply end up in the sideboard for the Solution, but nonetheless comes in handy when Void wouldn't get everything.

The strange absence of Shivan Zombie - He just doesn't work for the deck. The odds of having RB early enough in the game to cast him to make a difference simply aren't good enough for him to stay out of the sideboard. His protection from White has never been useful, and I find that every time I cast him all he does is trade with some other bear. I've just traded him out for more removal, which has been working better.

The similarly strange absence of Repulse - Similarly against the norm, Repulse also turned out to be better used for more counters and removal.

What the deck needs:

1. Mass removal - Even with Void and Planar Despair nuking the board, the format still has too many creatures to deal with. Any other nontargeted kill cards in the environment? Breath of Darigaaz is the only one that comes to mind.
2. Discard? - Not sure about this. Whenever I try Addles, my mana base never comes together. I'm not even sure what to cut for them if I could cut things.

Hrmm, after a few more rounds I've moved the Despairs to the SB in favor of a third Void and another Fire/Ice.

Where's terminate?
You take out the B/R bear cause all he does is trade and don't replace him with something that can take out anything? :p
I would suggest siding out lobotomy and making it 4 Fire/Ice.
Also think you should have 2-3 Flametongue or 0. Does having one really make a difference?

Yes, the one Flametongue has also served me better as the third Fire/Ice. Lobotomies are looking to turn into fourth Prohibits and Fire/Ices at this point.

Still, Terminate is no better than Spite/Malice in most cases. There really seems to be an absence of fat black creatures to worry about (Spiritmonger hasn't shown up anywhere) Nonetheless, Terminates are going to show up in the sideboard for the few decks that actually do use large, fat monsters.

What about Tsabo Decree??? I've found that it is very helpfull against R/G and all the Kavus... Also against Voice of All and Meddling Mage...

Your deck blows, and terminates are cheaper than the dopey little split card 'Spite/Malice' and the whole no black fatties...SCUTA you stinkn' putz! on the note of FTK's WoW! you are really dumn on this one! in your original deck you onlt run one. aaaaaaaaahh! you can burn one critter!*shivers*like Jake said...2-3 or 0.

think more about the meta game!

I think we can criticize without the insults. Please look at Jake's or jcredberry's inquiries as examples of constructive suggestions.

Maybe is because I'm from a non-english country that my way to say things in english is more polite... But you also have to take notice that Turtlewax Joe keeps telling everybody what he really is: a Neanderthal!!! :D

Actually I'd say fire is as good as terminate if most of the creatures are bears... it kills them as well, but with added versility.
Also, Lobotomy is a great card if you know the deck already. It is a superb sideboard card, but not a good main deck card.
Other than that, it looks like a good deck... how good does the land work?

#1 -> Turtlewax Joe: If you want to talk like that, just go away. Thank you.

#2, the Latest Build:

5 Swamp
4 Urborg Volcano
4 Salt Marsh
4 Island
3 Mountain
1 Crosis's Catacombs
4 Shivan Reef

3 Void
3 Urza's Rage
4 Fact or Fiction
3 Prohibit
3 Fire/Ice
2 Spite/Malice
3 Exclude
4 Undermine

2 Trench Wurm
4 Nightscape Familiar
3 Pyre Zombie
1 Crosis, the Purger

The new version benefits from more Fire/Ice and the addition of Trench Wurms. The Wurms capitalize on the fact that almost all the major decks in this format have mana dependent on non-basic lands. Basically, either he gets countered (leaving fewer counters to deal with more powerful spells) or he mana screws your opponent to no end. Either way, it works.

As for why Terminate isn't in there, the option for yet more counterspells is far better. Not to mention that if you play Scutas in this format you're doomed anyway, so that's not much of a concern. I'm putting several in the sideboard to deal with Desolation Angel (which is actually played around here). I'm looking for more things to cut for Repulses, but that'll be for tomorrow to deal with.

A couple of ideas here....im not sure If you'll want to try them out or not, just brainstorming.

Till October, why not try Massacre over Planar Despair?

And, why not Pryoclasm....it takes out alot of bears (Granted, not nearly enough as some other options too...but those are costly)

*Brainstorming*

One card you might consider for the sideboard would be Shivan
Zombie. He can get around Spec.Lynx and avoids Vindicate's all
day long.

Just a thought.

I think Wurm is a good choice. Question, though: why doesn't Crosis turn into another Wurm? I mean...does Trench Wurm ever NOT have a target? All I see in my local environment is non-basic land...
Consider...I can't believe I'm going to say this...Razorfin Hunter? Sure, it's only a 1/1...but it can trade with bears after only one turn (block then ping), and multiples start pecking away at anything you don't like.

Crosis may well turn into a third Wurm. One of the things just saved my arse from Rage three games today. Then the zombies (Pyre and Familiar) took it home. Those little 1/1 Zombies have killed more opponents than is even funny.

The Shivans are staying in the sideboard for the moment. White/Black has been amazingly silent around here for the moment. Will those be famous last words? Only time will tell
