CPA Build-a-Deck III: Ajani Goldmane

Here's another way to use Ajani's gain life ability and persist
Cradle of Vitality. But I think we need more persist creatures to go along with the latest cards...

4x Ajani Goldmane

2x Soul Warden
3x Savannah Lions
2x White Knight
2x Angel of Despair
2x Desolation Angel
2x Exalted Angel
1x Necroskitter

4x Vindicate
2x Swords to Plowshares
2x Disenchant
1x Glorious Anthem
1x Ghost Council of Orzhova
1x Puppeteer clique
2x Oblivion Ring
2x Healing Salve
1x Cauldron Haze
1x Cauldron of souls
1x Well of Lost Dreams
1x Cradle of Vitality

You're right, more persist would be great. There aren't that many good white persisters though. There are more in black. Does the deck want more black? We could up the cauldron cards for persist and just add 187's/sacrificers or just a bunch of good creatures.

I'm adding a Wrath of God, that works great with persist. And with planeswalkers, obviously.

4x Ajani Goldmane

2x Soul Warden
3x Savannah Lions
2x White Knight
2x Angel of Despair
2x Desolation Angel
2x Exalted Angel
1x Necroskitter

4x Vindicate
2x Swords to Plowshares
2x Disenchant
1x Glorious Anthem
1x Wrath of God
1x Ghost Council of Orzhova
1x Puppeteer clique
2x Oblivion Ring
2x Healing Salve
1x Cauldron Haze
1x Cauldron of souls
1x Well of Lost Dreams
1x Cradle of Vitality

Creatures: 16
Non-Creature Cards: 20
Lands: 0

Total: 36

With 24 lands, this deck is done. Some comments:

-we have some weenies and a bunch of high costed "angels", that doesn't curve well
-do we have enough critters for Glorious anthem?
-I'd rather have a creature in place of the Healing salve. Isn't there a creature with a similar effect? Same goes for disenchant. Vindicate sliver instead of Vindicate, for instance. It might cost more, but the deck would become more synergistic.

Probably, but I don't know enough about it. I say play with the current version and then if it doesn't work, sub in some cards and play again :)

If you want more creature abilities, these may be good.

Capashen Unicorn
1W
1/2
1W, T, Sacrifice Capashen Unicorn: Destroy target artifact or enchantment.

Devout Witness Creature - Spellshaper [2/2] 2W
1W, tap, Discard a card from your hand: Destroy target artifact or enchantment.

Deathbringer
Liege Creature - Horror [3/4] W/B W/B W/B 2
Other white creatures you control get +1/+1.
Other black creatures you control get +1/+1.
Whenever you play a white spell, you may tap target creature.
Whenever you play a black spell, you may destroy target creature if it's tapped.

Magus of the Disk Creature - Human Wizard [2/4] 2WW
Magus of the Disk comes into play tapped.
1, T: Destroy all artifacts, creatures, and enchantments.

Since this is going in a different direction than Armageddon... I'll take out the Desolation Angel in favor of the Liege who better fits - and is a tad cheaper since you won't need kicker and is better priced w/ hybrid mana.

Interesting. Deathbringer liege is definately strong. The white part sucks, the Royal assassin part is great. But it's unreliable unless you play multicolored spells yourself, or plan to play two spells per turn. Anyway, I'm replacing the two disenchants for two Mortifies. I'd rather take out the Healing salves though, but those are there with a very specific purpose ;)

How about we replace disenchant w/ Necrotic Sliver? - alternatively, I'd pull my soul wardens for it since life gain comes from Ajani and it's not as creature heavy as I'd originally thought...

It is far slower, but it will activate the Liege, gives us a couple more creatures, and is more flexible than disenchant since it gets any permanent

My contribution for the day is Scrubland

I'll add another non-basic land, but only 2.
Fetid Heath
Gives colorless, but color fixes if needed.

Does this deck really need 24 land cards?

And what is that? I'd rather have Dawnfluke, since it's the same cc and/or it's a creature.

I added the healing salves to prevent damage to the player - and thus to Ajani...
We can take 'em or leave em... but that's why they are there.

Let's look at the three cards
Seht's tiger (3/3)
2WW
Flash (You may play this spell any time you could play an instant.)
When Seht's Tiger comes into play, you gain protection from the color of your choice until end of turn.

Dawnfluke (0/3)
3W
Flash
When Dawnfluke comes into play, prevent the next 3 damage that would be dealt to target creature or player this turn.
Evoke W

Healing Salve
W
Instant
Choose one — Target player gains 3 life; or prevent the next 3 damage to target creature or player this turn.

1) All 3 can be cast at instant speed
2) Salve and Dawnfluke are a 1cc
3) Tiger is also a 3/3 creature
4) Tiger prevents all damage from 1 color
5) Tiger is 4cc

I still think I'd rather have Dawnfluke, but it would be better with Glorious Anthem.

Dawnfluke > Healing Salve for this deck. Too bad it can't gain life instead... (after a persist return say)... But, I don't think life will be a problem in this deck. Since I added the Salves, I don't have any hesitation pulling them for Dawnfluke... (which i'd never heard of before).

I think the liege is a much better replacement for Anthem...

I forgot about that..... yes, much better

Since swamp walk is much more prevalent than plains walk:
Urborg.... still gets the black mana

Why wouldn't you want to run all 8 duals? The deck relies on both colors. As for fetches, well, same story. But instead of fetches we could run something like Eternal dragon, a plainscycler (that'll also fetch duals). Cut both disenchants and two basic lands and add 4 landcyclers.
