I'm obsessed with playing something that no ne else is at the next PTQ...regardless of whether or not I'm wasting my $20. At first, I thought about playing an exact copy of the old Mirage-Era Senior-Stompy, but then I thought of this...

Any ideas are welcome, even if it's "drop it and play Trix..."

Also, ideas for the sideboard would be most helpful.

Thanks!

4 Ramosian Sergent
3 Defiant Falcon
2 Lin Sivi, Defiant HEro
1 Defiant Vanguard
1 Joval Queen
1 Ramosian Skycaptain
3 Mother of Runes

4 Counterspell
4 Absorb
4 Force of Will

2 Route
3 Swords to Plowshares
4 Brainstorm

4 Tundra
4 Adarkar Waste
10 Islands
6 Plains

SIDEBOARD
2 Disenchant
1 Swords to Plowshares
2 Route
2 Thermal Glider
8 ?

Check your land count - I think it might be a typo :D

The first thing I notice is that you are running 4 FoW's but you've only got 12 other blue spells to use with its ACC, 8 of which are counters. I don't know if that will be enough cards to allow you to Force when you need to - I'd cut some or add more blue.

2nd thing I notice, no Meddling Mage. It stinks that he isn't a rebel, but from what I hear he is pretty tough in extended.

In your sideboard I'd run 4x Seal of Cleansing at least, as Donate/Illusions and X-Oath are probably considered the best deck concepts in the format. I say Seal instead of Dchant b/c you can lay the Seal threat early to have a better chance of getting around counters.

I also notice that you're running Swords...which, unless I'm horribly mistaken, went out of print with 4th Edition, making them not Extended-legal.

Put the Disenchants in for them.

I've got a rebel listing, not sure how good it is:

4 Ramosian Sargeant
4 Mother of Runes
3 Fresh Volunteers
4 Steadfast Guard
4 Soltari Priest

3 Cursed Scroll
3 Swords to Plowshares
3 Seal of Cleansing
4 Tithe
4 Crusade
3 Armageddon

3 Wasteland
4 Plateau
14 Plains

Sideboard
1 Swords to Plowshares
4 Pyroblast
3 Disenchant
3 Honorable Passage
1 Armageddon
3 Wrath of God

Extended is too fast for Rebels to go up the chain. Fast efficient creatures with utility spells and mana reset might take the match.

It is possible to add Scrublands to the mana base allowing for Perish in the side but that make you more vulnerable to Ruination and Price of Progress.

Yeah, 36 lands might be a bit much. I'll edit that.

Also, I could swear that FoW's ACC was to remove any card and pay one life, not just blue cards.

From crystalkeep.com (D'Angelo Rulings)

Force of Will
Color=Blue Type=Instant Cost=3UU AL(U2)
Text(AL+errata): You may pay 1 life and remove a blue card in your hand from the game rather than pay ~this~'s mana cost. ; Counter target spell. [Oracle 2001/06/01]

My friend got busted on this last Saturday.

Oh yeah, some other good anti-combo tech is Aura of Silence. Its an expensive Dchant at 1WW, but its secondary ability of increasing opponent's artifact and enchantment CC's by 2 really puts a damper in the gameplan of the Illusions deck and could also be a nuisance to Turboland/Oath or whatever build you'll face.

Damn. See what happens when you don't play with a card for about 4 years?

Well, what other blue cards could go in?

Or, what chances does a plain rebel deck hold? I just figured that out of all possible rebel decks, CounterRebel had the best shot.

Meddling Mage is blue.

Drop Routs - they`re WAY too slow for extended.
Play Tithe.
And seeing as there`ll be so many StP`s flying around I`d run 3 Sivvi at least.

Absorb seems a bit Type-II as well.

4 Sergeant
4 Meddling Mage
1 Lieutenant
2 Falcon
3 Sivvi
1 Vanguard
1 Jhovall Queen
(16)

4 Tithe
3 Swords To Plowshares
3 Divert
3 Seal of Cleansing
4 Counterspell
2 Absorb
3 Force Of Will
(22)

4 Adarkar Wastes
4 Tundra
6 Islands
8 Plains
(22)

Off the top of my head. I like Divert in this deck.

Stormscape Apprentice has a good W ability but it can't do anything to Morphling and its bird feed against sligh.

I still like Meddling Mage

What about W/G Rebel-Elf? They've got some really interesting synergies:
Skyshroud Poacher (a rebel) can go fetch Deranged Hermit, Elvish Lyrist, Gaea's Herald, Gaea's Skyfolk, Llanowar Knight, Quirion Ranger, Taunting Elf (sneaky tech) and Wood Elves

Now you've got Gaea's Cradle action - and some really strong sideboard options like City of Solitude, Choke, Emerald Charm, etc.

Here is a tenative decklist:
Creature 21
4 Ramosian Sergent
3 Defiant Falcon
1 Ramosian Skycaptain
2 Lin Sivi, Defiant Hero
3 Mother of Runes
2 Skyshroud Poacher
1 Quirion Ranger (anti-stasis bullet)
2 Elvish Lyrist
3 Deranged Hermits (kill card - maybe 2)

Spells 16
4 Glorious Anthem
3 Aura of Silence/Seal of Cleansing
3 Armageddon
4 Swords to Plowshares
2 Scroll Rack

23
4 Savannah
4 Brushland
3 Gaea's Cradle
3 Rishadand Port/Wasteland
7 Plains
2 Forest
I would also consider the G/W Mirage fetch lands, but I think this deck has too much of a wanted mana curve to use them. Not sure though.

OK, I need some alternatives to Tithe. I only have 2 at home and may not be able to get ahold of 4 before Sunday.

Also, what ideas can you give me for the sideboard. The Extended decks I've seen so far around here include B/W/U Forbidian w/ Shadowmage Infiltrator, 10-Land Stompy, Lot'sO Oath, some Sligh, and then various "rouge" builds.

Thanks!

You could put Flood Plains in for 2 Tithes. Serves a similiar purpose but hurts against stasis. Sideboards are always tough for me.

Options off the top of my head
B/W/U Forbidian w/ Shadowmage Infiltrator - Gainsay, Abeyance
10-Land Stompy - Spectral Lynx, CoP Green or the Green Sphere,
Lot'sO Oath - Extract, extract, extract, Aura of Silence
Sligh - CoP Red, Thermal Glider

I might do something like:
2 Aura of Silence (hurts Oath and Trix)
4 Extract (hurts Oath, Reanimator and possibly Trix if you nix an AK)
3 Gainsay (hurts anything with blue)
4 CoP Red (or Story Circle for green too?)
2 Thermal Glider (maybe 1 maindeck)

It sounds like Swords would be an effective cards...lots of critters going around.

I would be tempted to go to four maindeck Swords. They're just so amazingly frickin' efficient, and the fact that they piss off Trick (Donate) just makes them THAT much more impressive. The only creatureless deck in Extended is Donate, and Swords is just fine in that matchup (though likely not more than 3x). They're especially drawn to countermagic against Oath, however...
