College Students...

I'm just wonderin' here, as a college student, I had a somewhat "tough" decision to make in choosing my major. I finally landed at a major in Computer Science, with a minor in Business.

The problem I have is that I would like to be involved in other majors. I'm into CS, but...I have very great interests in journalism and writing, business, any art, psychology, and philosophy. I'm still toggling with that dilemma...

What is/was/think-will-be your major...? Any particular reasons for that choice?

I already decided I can be happy without money so I'm going to major in Music Theory/Composition.

One of the hardest decisions I'm making in life, choosing a major,..right now,...its between Creative Writing, Computer Programming, and Fine Arts.
Although, I'm almost a 100% sure I'll choose Creative Writing, this because I love writing and reading books, it's been something I've been doing for years. Attempt to choose something that might bring happiness and tranquillity for you in the future.

Decisions, decisions,...sigh

I'm a Chemistry major at the moment. The reason I chose Chemistry as my major is that I've always been fascinated by science, and in high school I really enjoyed that class.

I am however, considering switching majors to Physics due to the fact that I'm really not enjoying my Chemistry classes, but I haven't actually taken a Physics class, so I'm holding off on making a decision until I do. Even if I do switch I'll still minor in Chemistry.

I suggest not choosing a major before you take one of the classes...Your idea of what its supposed to be like may be different than what the subject really is about...My friend for instance, told everyone in HS that he was going to be a Psych major, bragged about it forever...Then when he actually started taking some courses he said he didn't like it at first, but now he does...But I still don't believe him because hes miserable with the 3 classes hes taking this semester...

I'm a Theatre major right now...I took 3 theatre classes this semester and it looks like I'll be taking 3 more next semester, along with music theory 1...I'm really into musical theatre...

But, we'll see where things go...

Bleh...Theatre major, huh?

That's where I started out before I became a bum. I hated the silly exercises. I hate "the method". Either you can act or you can't, end of story.

Hey, Almindhra...where's your center?

Well, if I didn't have a deep, passionate love for money...I would certainly be going to Music Theory or any music composition classes. My cousin, a 15 year old programmer and a genius hacker, really got me into programming. So that's why I'm taking CS...my advisor told me that if I make it, I would have the potential to be extremely wealthy...so that was like the icing on the cake.

I dunno...I haven't taken a single CS class yet. I'm fulfilling general requirements now...

The worst thing about CS: it requires Calculus I, Calc II, Calc III, some kinda statistics course, and a "Linear Algebra" course. I’m not fond of any of those courses…

I'm a Music Performance major(emphasis in voice) and I'm thinking of adding a minor in Theater Performance(I might make it a business minor, though). That means that I'm going to sing on a street corner for a living.

Actually, I hoping to use these talents and take them to the Big Screen or Broadway.

Oh, and I don't have to take any more math to graduate.

I did Creative Writing for a year, but wanted a degree in something other than 'making it up'. I graduated with a History degree last year at the ripe old age of 24.

The college I'm going to (Full Sail University) makes you chose your course before enrolling.

I'll be out in a year with a degree in Recording Arts.

Y'know, the people who make Britney Spear's voice sound good? :D

Thirteen months, starting August First.

Folks, it just doesn't matter.

90% of college graduates don't work in the field of their major, anyway.

Study what you are interested in, but try to get a well-rounded education. My first degree is in English, but I also took about 20 classes in science - biology, chemistry, math, physics, astronomy, genetics, meteorology.

Later, I got 2 degrees in computer science.

Now, I'm doing less work and making more money than ever by taking x-rays!

So don't obsess too much about what to major in. You don't choose your career, it chooses you.

heheh, I haven't learned about "my center" yet...But, hopefully I'm better than most at acting....*shrug*...I'd rather sing...But, I don't know...

I'd like to think I will hear my calling soon...

Thought I'm only a high school sophomore, I'm thinking of majoring in microbiology, because you can engineer viruses if you're good enough at it (and everyone who knows me knows that my life goal is to sterilize or destroy humanity). Muhuha. Ha.

I'm a junior in high school. Right now I'm the most interested in Comp Science or possibly Computer Engineering, but I also want to go into some sort of science such as Chemistry or Physics. I've been into computers for a long time, and I'm really enjoying the C++ class I'm taking this year. And although I'm fascinated by learning all I can about science of just about all fields, I like having the knowledge more than doing the actual laboratory experiments, so I'm not sure if I should be a scientist.

Ally--After hearing you sing, I say stick with theater.:)

I'm a junior in high school, and thinking of going into computer science (I too am taking a C++ class and enjoying it a lot) or journalism/writing of some kind. I think it'd be really cool to be a sportswriter and follow the Indians around all year writing for a Cleveland paper, but I don't know just how viable that is.

The memories, the memories.... :D

I agree with Mr. P, but I chose Computer Science because I liked programming and I didn't have to write a lot of papers, aside from the "general liberal arts" credits I had to take. And I am working in that field, which is pretty good.

If you have the luxary of taking as much time as you want, you can do almost anything... but if you want to get out in four-five years, you gotta choose one so you can graduate on time. My wife chose hers her junior year so technically you have time still (depending on your school's requirements), but she was also loaded down those last two years trying to finish all of the courses so maybe that's not such a good idea :)
