Alright this is the "serious" version of my manic depressive black deck. Its Type 1 Legal, and besides a Mox Jet and a Lotus, I think Its complete, what do you guys think?

I thought about them, as a friend of mine is running them with extreme success in his sligh deck, but I honestly don't know what they'd replace.

Lake of the dead...

Rain of Filth... is decent...

Especially when looking for the quick Hatred kill...

And ot my knowledge - Lake of the dead is not restricted...

And it's not legendary!...

(Following example without any additional mana resources)
"swamp tap, carnophage...
lose1, tap for black, lake of the dead... duress, duress
lose1, swamp, attack, hatred... for 16..."

now just think what you could do with something like the lotus in play!!!...

"Yea me!..."

thats actually a really good point. I often have a hatred in hand 3rd turn, but no ritual. now I have to get 2 Lakes for this deck. Much thanks train.

no prob...

the greatest point is that it is not legendary - so with 2 swamps and 2 lakes on the table - you have a FAT 10 mana!!!

And with the artifact coming out that lets you play lands from the gy - lakes are even better...

I dispute that. The greatest point about Lake is that it taps to produce FOUR mana for the price of a swamp. Being legendary is just icing on the cake. But the card is great...

Why not include a Necropotence or something? It looks like that would work...

refilling my hand is usually not a problem, and if I need any "silver bullets" i've got 3 tutors to get them, along with a will that allows me to reuse the tutors. I'm never one to make a case against necro, but my life is very precious in this deck and needs to be conserved in order to beat people in the face with cheap critters.

Oversoul - my point was that it was not Legendary... meaning oyu could have 4 on the table... and maybe even copy it with some trickery...

I know, I was just emphasising how good Lake is, not trying to argue with what you, but just pointing out that FOUR is such a big number...


Now copying Lake of the Dead? That's something I'd never thought of. It would be fun. What would you use? Well, it's probably not something that would fit into this deck anyway, but whatever trick you're thinking of might be really abusive in another deck...

Lake itself looks great for this deck. I'd still test it with a Necro (which is restricted anyway), but if the life thing is such a problem (and I guess Azreal would know, having used the deck already) then of course, Necro's not the card for this deck.

Well, Juzam Djinn looks like a great finisher here. I always liked that card, even though it seems to see little use...

Natural Affinity/Clone is probably one of the easiest... or the new card that makes everything artifacts... Then you could just copy artifact...

there's quite a few ideas...

kamahl could even give your lake of the dead +3/+3 and trample!!!...
