Casualising the Pattern deck

I think I was one of the very first players to play a Pattern Of Rebirth deck - mine debuted in the first Urzas Block Constructed tournament to use Legacy - and it's been a consistent favourite of mine ever since. It's a deck who's novelty value has been taken away by how popular it is at the moment in the current Extended field (unfortunately), and so the challenge when I came to make a new one was to somehow change my mixture of spells to something that would be more amusing to play with and against. Mostly that means swapping out some of the main silver bullets for something a little more obscure.

ie.
-1 Darksteel Colossus (inarguably the #1 fatty, but dull to play with and against)
-1 Saproling Burst (takes away the turn 3 kill combo)

4 Birds Of Paradise
2 Llanowar Elves
2 Skyshroud Elves
1 Spike Feeder
1 Spike Weaver
4 Phyrexian Ghoul
1 Krovikan Horror
2 Phyrexian Plaguelord
1 Fallen Angel
1 Monk Idealist
3 Academy Rector
1 Crater Hellion
1 Bringer Of The Red Dawn
1 Platinum Angel
(25 creatures)

1 Oath Of Ghouls
1 Mind Slash
1 Pernicious Deed
1 Diabolic Servitude
1 Parallax Wave
4 Pattern Of Rebirth
1 Yavimaya Embrace
(10 spells)

+2 spare slots

23 random land (to be worked out when the spells are finalised)

The main fetch card you go for is the Bringer Of The Red Dawn - he embodies beatings AND control in one card, which is ideal. The other search cards are all situational. Dying, get Platinum Angel... need to clear the board, get Crater Hellion or Pernicious Deed... need to beat counterspells, get Oath Of Ghouls. But there are two slots open yet which I can use to put in more cards to help the deck run... a Genju Of The Realms wouldn't be totally out of order - searchable with Rector and quite easily castable as well. Any ideas for inclusions? Zephids Embrace? Kiki Jiki? Genju? Mystic Snake? Devout Witness? Karn?

No Panda/burst combo, oh well.

How about Rector/Pattern out a Colossus/Fires of Yavimaya?

That's not very fun either, is it. I'm looking for interesting things I can do.

Ok,..ok,..my bad...casual right :)

How about one or two of these:?

Day of the Dragons
Enchantment
4UUU
When Day of the Dragons comes into play, remove all creatures you control from the game. Then put that many 5/5 red Dragon creature tokens with flying into play.
When Day of the Dragons leaves play, sacrifice all Dragons you control. Then return the removed cards to play under your control.

Conspiracy (+ Lin Sivvi)
Enchantment
3BB
As Conspiracy comes into play, choose a creature type.
Creatures you control, creature spells you control on the stack, and creature cards you own that aren’t in play or on the stack are of the chosen type.

Dual Nature
Enchantment
4GG
Whenever a creature card comes into play, its controller puts a token into play as a copy of that creature.

Grave Pact
Enchantment
1BBB
Whenever a creature you control is put into a graveyard from play, each other player sacrifices a creature.

Pillar Tombs of Aku
World Enchantment
2BB
At the beginning of each player’s upkeep, that player may sacrifice a creature. If that player doesn’t, he or she loses 5 life and you sacrifice Pillar Tombs of Aku.

I think I'm approaching a final list, I'm only now lacking a solution to Artifantments and I'm dithering over what to play - Seal Of Cleaning, Serenity, Reliquiry Monk, Devout Witness...

Otherwise the cards I'm adding at Yosei and Boneshredder. Boneshredder is good utility, strong with Oath, and good to search for in dire straits. Yosei is fat, and combos beautifully with Oath and some way of saccnig him (in not short of those) to lock your opponent out completely by tapping his permanents and removing his untap step. I also like the symbolism of putting The Morning Star in the same deck as a Fallen Angel (one for the Bible belt, there).

4 Birds Of Paradise
2 Llanowar Elf
2 Skyshroud Elf
1 Spike Feeder
1 Spike Weaver
1 Reliquiry Monk/Seal Of Cleansing
1 Monk Idealist
3 Academy Rector
4 Phyrexian Ghoul
1 Boneshredder
1 Krovikan Horror
2 Phyrexian Plaguelord
1 Fallen Angel

1 Oath Of Ghouls
1 Pernicious Deed
1 Mind Slash (random spell)
4 Pattern Of Rebirth
1 Diabolic Servitude
1 Parallax Wave

Big Guns
1 Yosei, The Morning Star
1 Crater Hellion
1 Platinum Angel
1 Bringer Of The Red Dawn

1 Volraths Stronghold
1 Phyrexian Tower
1 Mirrodin's Core
1 Caves Of Koilos
2 Sungrass Prairie
3 Thran Quarry
4 Llanowar Wastes
5 Swamp
5 Forest

BTW... is anything in this list not extended legal?

Symbiotic Wurm.

It's recommended by Zadoc(as of last time he spoke here, a few years ago), and gives back the Turn Three kill. It's also a more solid beatstick than a Saproling Burst in the long run.

So if I play this in a tournament I want to

+1 Symbiotic Wurm
+1 Darksteel Colossus
+1 Karn (does his ability wreck Affinity?)

-1 Bringer
-1 Yosei
-1 Krov

Karn, if he gets out, can destroy their artifact lands.

...you'll probably be dead by then. March First, that might change...

As I said at the start it isnt intended for competition, just for knocking about and annoying people in the shop. It;s perfect for that because just by changing a half dozen cards every week or so I can keep it fresh.

But at least I know if extended comes knocking Im not totally without a paddle.
