Casual OBC

Zombie Trailblazer seems like a fun/casual card to build a deck
around. I've been toying around with the idea for OBC. Its not
good enough to win a tournament but its different and I enjoy
playing it. Jp, suggested a few cards to make it better so I
got to wondering if someone else might have some ideas how
I could improve it.

The basic idea is to turn your opponents lands into swamps
during their upkeep starting on turn three so they can't cast
to many spells then later in the game swamp-walk'em with
slim-shaddy once you get Filth in the yard(you have to have
ZT and a few Zombies in play on turn three to turn their land
into swamps)

OBc Zombies
4 Zombie Cannibal
4 Purtid Imp
4 Crypt Creeper
4 Zombie Trailblazer
3 Nantuko Shade
2 Grotesque hybrid
4 Strength of Lunacy
3 Zombie Infestation
3 Filth
4 Chainer's Edict
2 Skeletal Scrying

20 Swamp
3 Cabal Pit

I know, its an auto-loss to many of the top OBC decks but we've
been trying to build some casual rogue decks for block that we'll
never play in a tournament. So, if you've got any suggestions
how to make this deck better or if you've got an idea for
something rogue please post it here.

Thanks,

Caveman

How is attacking with Zombies against a black deck any different from attacking with them vs any of the other four colors?

Well, it's just that it's the only way this deck could possibly win against black.

It is no different.
But don't fool around with making things into swamps.

I kind of over stated the "turn their land in swamps" part. For
the most part this deck is suicide Zombies with a little bit
of ability to stall an opponent for two or three turns if your
lucky. If an opponents playing Black then about the only thing
you can do is lose to the Swarm. Swamp-walk helps some but
MBC will destroy this deck as well as most the other popular
OBC decks.

We haven't been playing the popular deck types because I'm
stuck in this theme mode(tribes think)and my opponents enjoy
coming up with original decklist. I've built Bird decks, Barbarian
decks and now a Zombie deck.

I was hoping that someone might have some rogue ideas as
well. I'm sure most of the Magic community doesn't waste their
time on this kind of stuff but its kind of fun to deviate from the
norm once in awhile. My problem seems to be an inability to
build something rogue yet good enough to compete with the
rest of the field.

Coat of arms...

And if your playing buried alive - throw 1 wonder in the deck...

Bury the wonder and you have flying pumped up zombies...

Man your all over the place today(..train)

I'd have to add a couple of islands to my deck for Wonder to
work. You need to control an island, I think?.

I'm not able to use Coat of Arms in Odyssey Block but it would
be a good card for a theme version.

Thanks

Dreams Works, in association with Caveman Productions
presents: Weekend at Erhnies

The hilarious story of a Djinn who just doesn't seem to get any
respect. In this story the once upon a time powerful Djinn, whom
you may remember for such hits as Arabian Nights and the cameo
appearences in Armageddon gets made fun of, left behind and
has to fight his way throught the Madness, Threshhold and
Flashback of today's super stars.

4 Werebear
4 Basking Rootwalla
4 Wild Mongrel
4 Erhnam Djinn
4 Nimble Mongoose

4 Devastating Dreams
4 Firebolt
4 Fiery Temper
4 Overmaster

4 Mossfire Valley
10 Forest
10 Mountains

:) :) :) :) :D :D :D :D

For the zombie deck its a damn shame that Lord of the Undead isn't OBC, but Chainer is - he might be fun instead. Not necessarily good but fun.

Also, I actually like Organ Grinder in here. He's a 3 power zombie for 3 (which is quite nice if he's got swampwalk) and he destroy's graveyard. I'm really surprised he doesn't see more play. Rotting Giant (another zombie) ain't bad either, as his restriction is quite controllable and he's a big body for 1B.

Oh yeah, get some Cabal Coffers in here too.

For the R/G deck, if you want to hit threshold run Book Burning (which isn't bad with Grim Lavamancer either). I don't know about Devastating Dreams - the card scares the hell out of me since this is an aggro deck and there is a very good chance you'll empty your hand quickly. I feel Epicenter would be stronger.

Also, replace some forests with some other green sources - like Centaur Gardens. This way you have less Forests to worry about for Ernie (plus its another threshold card).

The Zombie deck is pretty fun but its just not very good. OBC
really needs the Zombie Lord. I doubt if that would make it
much better but recurring those Crypt Keepers would be
interesting. I have tryed Organ Grinder and it is ok but I took
him out for the Shades. I needed some punch. I used some
Coffers in my first decklist but I didn't really need all that
black mana and I really need three swamp turn three if I
hope to stall with the Trailblazer.(cc BBB)

Weekend at Erhnies is kind of lame and I wasn't sure if I should
even attempt a Devastating Dreams based deck but I figured
what the heck.

Here is my attempt at Book Burning:

4 Basking Rootwalla
4 Wild Mongrel
4 Werebear
3 Erhnam Djinn
3 Fledgling Dragon

4 Firebolt
4 Fiery Temper
4 Book Burning
3 Epicenter
3 Krosan Reclamation

10 Mountain
8 Forest
4 Mossfire Valley
2 Centuar Garden

Thanks for the reply.

I'm still interested in anything rogue.

Good point about the Coffers. I still like the Rotting Giant, although he's counter-productive to the Putrid Imp.

I like that R/G build, but I'm a little confused about Krosan Reclamation in there. Is there a trick I'm missing or is it just some maindeck GY removal? If its a spot filler, consider Grim Lavamancer or Browbeat in its place. I'm leaning towards the Grim, since he's nice with Book Burning, Epicenter (assuming you've got the mountain in your hand), and the Mongrel. Of course Browbeat is a beating in R/G too.

sorry bout the coat of arms... but 1-balthor the defiled might not be too bad...

The Reclamations are for those darn incarnations, Roar of the
Wurm and to remove threshhold, once in a while. Lava-man
is a good card and I would add him but I'm so sick of making
proxies. Just about all of my OBC decks are proxie cards. We've
taken this week off so I'll probably proxie him next week.

I'll give Balthor a shot next week also.

What about rat's feast instead of reclamation... that way they don't get the cards back at all...

I think that graveyard-hate deck would be fun. Things like

Zombie Cannibal
Gravegouger
Gravestorm

and more goodness.

Ya, I've been playing around with the idea myself. This Tomb
Raider variant seems kind of fun.

4 Keeper
4 Butcher
4 Fiend
4 Shade
4 Cannibal

4 Therapy
4 Edict
3 Demise

I've also been toying with a rogue Blue & Red deck.(no GY hate though)

4 Aquameoba
4 Temper
3 Inkshrouder

My version of that Terravore deck is:

Creatures (16)
2 Sylvan Safekeeper
4 Werebear
4 Terravore
3 Nantuko Cultivator
3 Magnivore

Sorceries (18)
2 Firebolt
4 Epicenter
4 Insist
4 Overmaster
4 Rites of Spring

Land (26)
4 Barbarian Rings
1 Centaur Garden
2 Mossfire Valley
4 Mountain
15 Forest

Sometimes it just totally wins. Overmaster + Epicenter can game people.
