More Britons believe in ghosts than God, according to research. A total of 2,012 people were polled on their beliefs on the supernatural. Over two thirds (68%) said they believe in the existence of ghosts and spirits. Just over half (55%) said they believe in the existence of a God. Some 26% believe in UFO's, 19% in reincarnation and 4% in the mythical Loch Ness Monster. The survey found 12% believe they have actually seen a ghost. Just over three quarters, (76%) said that reality TV shows and films like The Blair Witch Project have helped convince them spooks and ghouls really exist. The poll was carried out in advance of Hallowe'en by entertainment retailer ChoicesUK. Spokesman David Rich said: "We want to believe in ghosts more than ever."

Hee hee that's pretty cool. However, belief in random supernatural things have been on the rise in the UK for about fifty years or so. Until something like the early 50's Witchcraft was a jailable offense, but after a large group of Witches gathered at the shores to "defend" England from an invasion from Germany (with only two actual guns amongst them) England decided to cut them some slack. Since then the "forbidden" religions have been on the rise. I think that Crowley fellow helped a lot as well...

I would say this study more shows "Of 2012 people asked, 1368 people in Britain believe in the existance of ghosts and spirits" :)

Exactly. It's a very small sample group and the details of the survey are not noted in the article. I don't doubt that if a more thorough survey were conducted, belief in ghosts would outrank belief in God. If you ask people if God is real, you're going to get a lot of answers that are not yes or no, but in the "other" category. The same goes for ghosts, but I don't think it's to the same extent.

The statistic that would matter, if true (and it probably isn't all that inaccurate) is the "Just over three quarters, (76%) said that reality TV shows and films like The Blair Witch Project have helped convince them spooks and ghouls really exist" thing...
