1) name all the cards that are banned for their "ante" aspect.

2) what two cards destroy every card in play from a certain expansion?

3) what set introduced the first 'clone' creatures - i.e., creatures that had the same casting cost, p/t, and abilities as creatures that were previously printed?

4) what did the card 'wedding day' do? (hint: wedding day was never actually released, but was in the original playtest set).

5) in the first editions of magic, each color had a 3-for-1 card. name all five.

6) how many lands don't produce any mana of any sort? and while you're at it, name them.

and finally...
7) how many four-letter english words begin with the letter 'q'? and how does this question involve magic?

I'll just answer 5 and leave the rest for others, since my answer to five is slightly different from yours.

5. Healing Salve, Giant Growth, Lightning Bolt, Dark Ritual, and Unstable Mutation. (The other four are common, give my one good reason why the last part of the cycle would be rare.)

2. City in a Bottle destroys Arabian Nights cards, and Apocalypse Chime destroys all Homelands cards.

3. I guess Legends with Headless Horseman.

4. no idea

5. well Unstable Mutation was in Arabian Nights, I'm not sure Pezmaster includes that in the first sets (AlphaBetaUnlimited).
I read somewhere that Ancestral Recall was made Rare because they thought it was the weakest of the 5 and noone would ever play it, is that true?

I'm too lazy to look up all the answers for 1 or 6

Colors are fun! :)

1. Darkpact, Demonic Attorney, Bronze Tablet, Jeweled Bird, Timmerian Fiends are the ones that come to mind.

2. City in a Bottle, Golgothian Sylex, Apocalypse Chime.

3. Headless Horseman is correct.

4. Who knows, who cares?

5. Healing Salve, Giant Growth, Ancestral Recall, Lightning Bolt, Dark Ritual. Ancestral Recall was rare because you could get 3 cards for 1...that can mean drawing a lot of cards really fast.

6. Let's see...the Legends band-lands, Diamond Valley, Oasis, Maze of Ith, Halls of Mist, Glacial Chasm, Safe Haven...City of Shadows, before you feed it creatures.

7. A surprising number, including 'quiz'.

1. Tempest Efreet also

2. Answered, but I loved the name "Apoclypse Chime" :)

3. Answered

4. Uh..it married Hanna to Urza? :p

5. Answered

6. The Legends lands I remember: Karakas, Pendlehaven, Tolaria...., Sorrow's Path(I think),The Mirage land searchers(Mountain Valley, Flood Plain, etc.), Thawing Glaciers

7. How does it relate to Magic? There is no "Quit" card yet?

Ancestral Recall was the blue 3 for 1; it was made rare because even in playtesting Alpha, drawing cards turned out to be too strong.

Zadok: We talked about this early last year and I even reposted the Duelist article that says this! I wonder if I can dig up the thread....

Drat, I can't find it. I guess I could repost it if you're really interested.

I know I'm wrong. :) This is a fact I am fully conizant of. I refuse to accept it, though, because I'm a stubborn bastard, that's all. *grin* Sorry, guys. Just one of my pet peeves.

here's how it goes so far:

1) Darkpact, Demonic Attorney, Bronze Tablet, Jeweled Bird, Timmerian Fiends are all correct, but there are still others. Tempest Efreet was banned because it permanently exchanged the ownership of cards, though there is nothing that involves 'ante' in the card.

2) city of brass and apocalypse chime are correct; good job lotus mox!

3) legends is also right; headless horseman was a clone of scathe zombies and barbary apes were a clone of grizzly bears. for extra credit, what legends creature was cloned in the next expansion?

4) the answer to this is in an old duelist somewhere...keep looking!

5) you also answered this one correctly. for zadok: ancestral recall is rare because it's godly powerful. and not to mention versatile - i've won games with it because my opponent was decked.

6) keep going, guys. so far you've named: the legends banding lands (adventurer's guildhouse, mountain stronghold, seafarer's quay, cathedral of serra, and unholy citadel) , Diamond Valley, Oasis, Maze of Ith, Halls of Mist, Glacial Chasm, Safe Haven, sorrow's path, the mirage fetch lands (grasslands, mountain valley, rocky tar pit, flood plain, bad river), the tabernacle at pendrell vale, and thawing glaciers... but there's still a couple more more out there.

7) i would honestly be amazed if anyone answered this correctly, so i'll just give it away. in the back of inquest, where the card descriptions were, the entry for bog wraith read:

Bog Wraith SC U *** 3B L,U,R,4th,5th
Swampwalk. 3/3. Quip is one of 11 four-letter q words. quoz is not one of them.

The card wedding day was a proposal from Garfield to his girlfriend (now wife) he used it in a game he was playing with her.
It took like 3 games for the card to finally get out...

The missing Ante cards:

Contract from Below is one, and Respiration(I think) is the other... GGGG, if any player antes a card, they reset their life total to twenty.

As for the Q-words, it's an Inquest related joke. In one of the generic cards in the back of older magazines, it had a remark about four-letter q-words. It then stated that Amulet of Quoz(an anagram for somthing, I forget what) had a nonsence word in it, which was "Quoz;" However, they neglected to mention that there was an actual Myan city named Quoz that was dedicated to Quozicotyle, one of their gods...

as for wedding day, I don't know, as Proposal was simple cut-and-paste on some Plains cards.

1) Also: Rebirth, Contract from Below, and Amulet of Quoz are the other ones.

2) Technically, City in a Bottle doesn't count because it doesn't remove itself, so assuming you want two of these cards, they are Golgothian Sylex (from Antiquities) and Apocalypse Chime (from Homelands).
But what about Spatula of the Ages?

3) Extra Credit: Raging Bull, a Gray Ogre clone from Legends, was cloned in the Dark as Goblin Hero.

6) Bazaar of Baghdad (sp?), and Tolarian Academy/Serra's Sanctum/Gaea's Cradle without any of the appropriate permanents in play.

i totally forgot about golgothian cylex...good call ticm. you're also right about raging bull. and orgg filled in the missing ante cards, so that just leaves numbers 4 and 6.

there's still one land left that doesn't produce mana - can anyone remember it? it's always been pretty hard to find...

and since no one's come close to #6, i'll just give the answer: wedding day ended the game in a draw. the flavor text was something like "no battles are fought in dominia on a planeswalker's wedding day".

As close to a game ending in a draw card there is is Divine Intervention. Good if you're tired of playing I guess. I think arean is right too, I do't remember it adding mana, just being able to do an ability similar to the Triangle of War.
