This deck will probably never win states or even a pro tour, but I feel that it will be a major arch-type in the upcoming Type 2.

BlastoGeddon (ver 2.7)

10 Forest
10 Plains
4 Brushland

4 Blastoderm
4 Armageddon

4 Armadillo Cloak
4 Noble Panther
4 Story Circle (took out Harrow, not needed)

4 Elven Archers
4 Llanowar Knight
4 Seal of Cleansing

4 Birds of Paradise

This deck slughtered every type 2 deck that I built, or was an even match for them. Except for a really fast, aggresive Red/Green deck. However, I main boarded in those 4 Story Circles, and it was all gravy.

All comments welcome and appreciated.

4 circles? isn't that a little overkill? Maybe 3, 2 would be more suitable. When you already have 2, they're pretty much dead cards.

Yes, but in the new format, I figure that multi colored decks will be the norm, and thus will have better ways to deal with enchantments, such as Tranquility, Boomerang, Disenchant, Mages' Contest, you get the picture.

XGeddon decks have been around since ... er, 1996, I guess. The underlying concept has always been that of establishing a strong control of the board by dropping a big green meanie on the playing field and then crippling the opponent's defense by Armageddoning away.

A serious control deck (like those B/U fish decks so prevalent lately) has a big chance of winning against this archetype. <laughs> Oh what the beebles am I babbling about?! :D

I'm just here to complain about the beatdown of Blastoderm in this deck. At fading 4, that gives the big green meanie only three attacks. One chump blocker like the Vodalian Zombie and the entire deck grinds to a halt (Noble Panthers included).

<scratches head> Lumbering Satyr is workable (though you have to redesign the deck around it) in a pinch. Hunted Wumpus is also a viable option (assuming not too many Dragon Legends/Avatar abusive decks floating around your area).

Also, I'd rather take out the Elvish Archers and put in River Boa. With Rancor out of the picture, first strike becomes less of a priority than the ability to regenerate. Maybe also drop a Story Circle and Seal of Cleansing to plop in a pair of Uktabi Orangutans.

Mah G/W follows almost the same route as yours ... 'cept I use Charging Trolls instead of Blastoderms and I use more aggresive methods of creature control (Afterlife and Pacifisms). As always, your deck ... your tune-up. Happy Magicking! :)

Why charging trolls instead of derms?
Why not both?
They serve different purposes. The derms go after black removal decks, and the trolls hit everything else.

The Trolls are far more resilient than the Blasted-derm ... AND you can slap down an Armadillo Cloak on 'em. <grins> Talk about cheesy offense/defense package. The fact that they stick around for more than 4 turns also counts for a lot. And they don't tap to attack, making them versatile. And they regenerate. And they're 3 toughness, making them safe from the vast majority of T-2 cheese. <laughs> Mister Zadok sir could probably do a better (not to mention more coherent) defense of why the Troll is so good.

I just like the bugger. The fact that he has a nice chainsaw in hand doesn't hurt... :D

I actually use the Trolls over the much ballyhooed Noble Panther ... since I play G/W defense-oriented, I use Trolls. Blasted-derms are such a wonderful beating stick ... if only Primal Rage/Overrun was still T-2 legal... <sighs>

Right. Trolls attack AND defend AND regenerate, plus give you a chance to armadillo cloak something. Now, if only they were black.......
