Thanks to Gizmo for explaining the Restricted vs Banned thing for me, makes sense. I think that Magic players seem to generally think old cards are better than they actually were. I mean, sure Shivan Dragon is nice but in all honesty its not even close to being broken in its present form. Its a beating for sure but its also expensive and in a color that doesn't have any natural mana acceleration. Also if you use artifacts to get it out you won't have much red to use the Firebreathing. My own opinion is that Swords to Plowshares is a card that seriously needs to be reprinted. I'm tired of all these inferior versions and that while it is incredibly good spot removal, it is pretty balanced.

I hope what I am trying to show my at least have ticked in most of peoples heads. We are getting crappier Edition by crappier Edition. We must like a hungry mob jump up and say "Give us that Juzam Djinn" or "Come-on lets see Shivan Dragon back spitting hot fire at our opponents". Those are the creatures that make Magic Godly-like. They might be trying to slow down the game but the are doing it to good. We are getting hordes of completely useless cards for Bonfires at Halloweens (Halloween does not exist in my country and burning bonfire isn't a good idea Doh!). I sweat if 7th Edition will be crappier than sixth many players will quit Magic.

You know I wouldn't doubt that one bit. Alot of players are getting really pissed of at the people at WOTC, I think they're churning out to many card sets. But why not? They're milking magic for all that its worth. If they only put out like one or maybe even two sets a year people wouldn't nessicarily buy any more, they might but I would think they would be much more happy. They would have time to break in the set and find all these cool combos. Casual players who don't buy boxes *coughmosteveryoneoneherecough* won't be afraid of people who already have the new set, because they will have some of the new set too.

WOTC is doing a good job at what they are doing, making cards, but you have to admit, one day WOTC will run out of ideas and... ...magic will go boom! But lets hope that doesn't happen for a very long time

When you think about it, the pre-release for Invasion was held in late September. That means four months between releases...not half bad, really. I've already completed my Invasion set, giving me time to work on my back sets, and by the time Planeshift comes out, most people will have whatever they need from Invasion.

Now that's is just EVIL AND WRONG, how much do you spend on magic in a month $150? Jebus... I can't afford that even spread over four months. Don't
forget that 7th is coming out sometime soon in the near future so that works out to about 4 sets this year. Every other year a new edition on the base set comes out (4th, 5th, 6th, 7th) and every year 3 new sets come out (last year, MM, NM, PY) I think that's a little much. I can't personaly get all I want from invasion in 4 months.

To further the cause of tempo...

What players are looking for is The Golden Ratio.
Cards that deliver the correct amout of power at the right time for the right price.
We want Shivan back because 6 for a 5/5,F,fb is NOT overpowered.
We want Juzam back because 2+Ritual for 5/5,-1pt is overpowered, but balanced since if paci'd or stopped by a regen, it still pings every turn. The price of gambling with a fast critter.

When WotC makes a fast set, it's fun for a while, but deep down, we know it sucks, and later on, it's no fun.

When WotC makes a slow set, it's boring for a while, but later on, it makes us realizes that speed is not necessarly good.

It's easy to tell the correct speed of Magic.
Garfield intended Magic to be a game playable during lunch breaks, at home, and when visitng friends. It's game length was to fit in that happy zone neither too long, nor too short, specifically, about 7 minutes.

Urza was too fast. Games took three minutes. Two of which was the final turn.

Masques was too slow. Fifteen-plus is simply too much time for one game. It hurt tournaments. It didn't affect casual, since Urza cards were floating all over the place.

We are now stabilizing again.
We have learned what we want.
We want Beta back.
We want junk. Junk, but playable junk.
We want power. Power, but power thwarted by junk.
We want speed. Speed, but speed thwarted by power.
We want balance.
We want chance.
We want strategy.
We want Magic.
We want cards that always have a use.
We want to have fun.

Let's hope Garfield brings back Beta, Unlimited, and Revised with Argon, Boron, and Carbon.

Good thread!

Regarding the original question: I think prices will drop on the original Black Loti (but probably not by much) while prices will soar on new Black Loti. Witness the effect prices underwent when Chronicles was released for a glimpse of this in action.

It would be banned in Standard, although with regards to PJ's comment, I believe Memory Jar was the first card banned before it was legal in Standard.

Regarding older cards in general: Assuming the No-Reprint List is revoked (of which a great majority of those cards listed are on), some might get reprinted and some not. Some might just drop out for a while before coming back again (like Atog did and what I think Shivan is going through right now).

Jar was around for a little while, before it was banned. I remember reading lots of tournament reports on the Dojo that said stuff like this:

"Round 4: Keith, playing Jar. I get a good hand, but he kills me turn 3. Second game, I side in the Disenchants, but he kills me turn 1."
