Sad but true.

I always thought it would be :

"The clone war"

The attack of the clones sounds like a bad B series thriller ..

I remember about 6-8 months ago, I heard that the name "Genesis" was the front runner for the title.

What's next? A cheesy theme song to go with it?

Attaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack of the Killer Tomatos!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sigh... the Clone Wars always seemed pretty interesting, and I was really looking forward to the movie. But that title is pathetic.

Worst title ever!

It could have been worse though, how about Star Wars: episode 2: Jar Jar Binks, Superstar

Or how about for the next one, SW:episode 3: The one before the really good ones

Pardon me while I defend the title...

All star wars titles have been so-called "B" movie titles inspired by old movie serials. In case you don't know, star wars it's self is partially based on old movie serials as well, hence 6 episodes. Old serials like Buck Rogers and Comando Cody, RocketMan.

The reason people do no like the title, I think, is simply because of the word "Attack", because it reminds them of "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes", "Attack of the 50 Foot Woman", et cetera. No one would be complaining if it were "Assult of the Clones", even though it's almost the exact same.

Notice, however, that it is gramaricly identacal to Return of the Jedi, and sounds no more cheessy then The Empire Strikes Back. Also notice that Attack of the Clones is no worse the Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, from the other Lucas series bassed on old pulp fiction and Saturday morning serial pictures.

The following are some of the titles that inspired StarWars, ALL of them.

All of the following are the real titles to real pulp fiction and movie serials from the '20's to the '50's...

"Akim the Terrible"
"Lure of the Light."
"Planet of Death"
"Struggle to the End."
"Saboteurs from Space"
"Deadline at Noon."
"Subworld Revenge"
"Forbidden Experiment."
"King Of The Rocket Men"
"Radar Men From The Moon"
"Commando Cody, Sky Marshal of the Universe"
"Flying Disc Man From Mars"
"Daredevils Of The Red Circle"
"Daughter of the Dragon"
"The Ghost in the Canyon"
"Aelita, Queen of Mars"
"The Master Mystery"
"The Dinosaur and the Missing Link"
"The Ghost of Slumber Mountain"
"Terrible Teddy the Grizzly King"
"Lost Planet Airmen"
"The Crimson Ghost "
"Spy Smasher"
"Retik, The Moon Menace. "
"The Purple Death "
"Triple Tragedy"
"Mechanical Executioner"
"The Avenging Corpse"
"The Scarlet Shroud "
"The Dead Man Returns"
"Preview of Murder "
"Horror on the Highway"
"Blade of Wrath"
"Skyscraper Plunge"
"Vault of Vengeance"
"The Scarab Strikes"
"Wholesome Destruction"
"The Toll of Doom"
"Cremation in the Clouds"
"Death's Fireworks"
"Fatal Fangs"
"Lost City of the Jungle"

Lucas is neither stupid nor lazy. If he was, he would not be as obscenley rich as he is.

Do any of you really think that he just said, "Oh, screw it, let's just call it Attack of the Clones...that's good enough." I imagine that there was a long and tedious process that led to this being chosen as the title.

First I agreed with the initial impression most everyone else had, and then Rando turned it around and made sense.

It probably could be better titled, but just the same it's probably because we're not used to the title that it seems bad.

Ransac really knows his movies. Where's you get the time to find all those? Or did you know those off the top of your head?

I should say Rando does as well.

Regardles, I would still be complaining if it were "Assault" instead of "Attack." Granted, Assault is better, but still it lacks the sense of epic drama that the originals had. The Star Wars movies are literally going to lose a lot of respect just because of that awful name, not to mention after the beating they got from how bad The Phantom Menace was (although that had a good name)

If this movie isn't amazing, I'm not even going to consider seeing Episode 3. Betrayal is something that I strongly dislike, and Lucas is starting to betray his fans.

A New Hope, (the propper title of Episode IV), generates feelings of epic drama?

The only thing the titles serve is to illistrate what happens in the movie. They are, after all, actually sub-titles.

In A New Hope, we are introduced to the hope of the galaxy.

In The Empire Strikes Back, the Empire, uh, strikes back.

In Return of the Jedi, a jedi does indeed return.

In the Phantom Menace, we are introduced to the shadowy scurge of the galaxy.

And, in Attack of the Clone, some clones attack.

The Clone Wars would not actually fit, sine The Clone War is a greater plot-point that will flow into Episode III as well.

...and The Phantom Menace was not so bad. I could give you a large list of actual "bad" movies, if you would like to see them for comparison.

As you can see, I take StarWars very seriously...and I'm a very big movie fan in general. Amoung the listed serial titles, I own several Comando Cody episodes on video.

I have to side with Rando. I understand the basis for these movies and the title fits the theme. I liked the Phantom Empire some of the acting was not as good as it could have been but it was interesting. I am not a purist I just like the story. I really don't understand what is wrong with Attack of the Clones but then again I am old.;)

I thought Phantom Menance was a good movie, but it was marketed towards kids, and not adults like the other star wars were. It takes away from the star wars feeling. Jar Jar Binks ruined the movie.

I love all Star-Wars films... Attack of The Clones is just too childish or B-Movie styled name... something like "When I was a Teenage Zombie"

The other 4 titles evoke something in people when they hear it. A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Even Phantom Menace had a nice ring to it. Attack of theClones sounds, well... lame.

Movie titles were meant to evoke images. If the title "Attack of the Clones" evokes this B-movie reaction, then it's a bad one. Sorry, to say, but not every person will analyze the title as well as Rando did. The spur-of-the-monent gut-feel reaction was, "Blech! A bad B-movie title! Lucas must be on crack!" Or something to that effect. Can you imagine how people like David ELtterman, Conan O'Brien and Jay Leno are going to massacre that title?

Ergo, bad title.

I guess the B-movie feeling is emphasized by other such movies with the word "attack" in the title, as well as the current anti-cloning sentiment being generated by modern issues. :D
