Amazing Race 7

Yeah, I guess that had to happen. Some network probably already had a contract or something. A condition they stuck in the Amazing Race contract or something... It's really a shame in a lot of ways, but not surprising at all.

Well, if it's the last two shows you haven't seen, then you've only missed one elimination. Last week's show ended with Rob and Amber getting to "Phil" (didn't say checkpoint) first, only to have him hand them the next clue.

Yesterday's episode finished that off. I won't say too much because I don't want to give away whether it is an elimination round or not (for example). But they really mess with the timing again. Uchena and Joyce have a really tough decision at the fast-forward which basically amounts to them deciding if they want to stay in the race or not...

Finally all caught up again!

I don't think it's in the contract, I just think the network(s) realize that Rob and Amber are pretty telegenic and marketable.

Well, we saw the first half and missed taping the second half, so feel free to say what happened. I know Alex and Lynn got eliminated due to the Interview links when they come out (although I don't read them then).

So we saw last week's episode and was pretty sure it would be non-elimination due to there are three total and only one had been used so far (that we can remember). I loved how Rob's comment about an earlier flight got Uchenna and Joyce and Meredith and Gretchen to actually find an earlier flight to Istanbul while the other two teams couldn't find one, despite repeatedly asking the travel agent. After seeing the preview and how Uchenna helps out Meredith and Gretchen, we decided we're rooting for them since they seem the best suited, both personality and race-wise.

Got to see the show and stay up late (which helped cause me to sleep in and come into work late :D )

The tables were turned this time... Ron and Kelly and Rob and Amber got the earlier flight (not sure if the other teams checked for one). Not sure why Meredith and Gretchen chose to to the more physical detour but hey, they got it done. My wife was saying for future Races they should ban having a "native" travel with your team after seeing the Londoner hang out with Rob and Amber :) Too bad Meredith and Gretchen got eliminated; there was an article about them in my paper yesterday because they're from Maryland's Eastern Shore which I guess makes them "local news" :)

Yeah, as much as I think Rob's unusual approach is actually good at getting people to think differently about the game, it was very funny to see it come back and bite him on the rear end, too. :D

Merdith and Gretchen really did well to stay in as long as they did. Seems they were almost always second to last place...

I think tonight is the end. Going to be interesting to see who wins. I'm happy with any of the three. Part of me would prefer to see Uchenna and Joyce, just because she was so willing to do what needed to happen.

I think overall, Rob and Amber have played to win the smartest in general. But it's also nice to see the small things that help out. For example, when Ron and Kelly helped Meredith and Gretchen, then they paid a bit back after Ron and Kelly suffered the same fate. I don't think Rob and Amber would have gotten any help from the others...

I was a bit surprised to see Rob and Amber yield Ron and Kelly. They must have thought they were right behind them. I thought they were right behind, too, but apparently not since Rob finished the challenge before they even showed up.

Stratigically, I thought they would yield Uchenna and Joyce, and they did talk about it. Yielding Ron and Kelly pretty much guarenteed them first place last week, but wasn't going to be enough to change the outcome. Yielding Uchenna and Joyce would have given Meredith and Gretchen a good chance of finishing third, leaving your chances of winning the overall race higher (assuming you feel Uchenna and Joyce are tougher competitors than Meredith and Gretchen, which I think it the general feeling).

Yeah, tonight's the finale.

Well, as far as was shown, since R&A and R&K took the earlier flight, R&A had no way of knowing where U&J and M&G where and how far back or who was ahead of whom. So they chose what they did know, that R&K was somewhere behind them, and maybe the yeild might push them into the second group. It's pretty much what R&K should have done when they had a chance to yield R&A, only R&A was standing right there (and Ron said as much right after).

So, I'm happy with the ending. Of course, I liked all three of the final teams, so I would have been happy no matter how it ended up.

Right until the end, though, Patrick had to remind me why I didn't like him in the first place...I almost wonder if everyone had started booing if Rob and Amber had won....That would have made for great TV.

Still, I do have to wonder how involved the producers get. I mean, I know they put things out of order to make you think that things are close. After all, some times they are and you can't know for sure that they aren't, right? But face it, if Rob and Amber had really shown up right when they appeared to, it would have been a footrace to the finish line and they would have come in right away.

But back to my point...even though they put things out of order, there are somethings that simply can't be done that way. Flights are often one of those things. I mean, if Uchenna and Joyce hadn't made that flight, would there have been any suspense at the end at all?

And how realistic is it that an airport would re-extend the gate "because the pilot said it was okay" based on someone saying they were in a race? I'd be willing to bet that the producers got involved somehow to make sure that the ending was more suspenseful. As such, I find it a bit sad that the winning effectively came down to the fact that one of the taxi drivers asked in Spanish where to find the place...

Still, overall, I can't complain that Uchenna and Joyce are the winners. Their overall ethics throughout were spectacular. Even down to the end, taking the risk on getting the money back for the cabbie instead of rushing to the finish line...I wonder what would have happened if Rob and Amber had shown up when they weren't finished. Would they have given up the million or would they have made a break for it? Personally, I would have explained the situation to the cabbie and asked him to run along with them... :)

ARGGGG! I messed up on setting the VCR and missed the finale.... a friend had to tell me what happened in "highlight" mode.

So I have absolutely nothing to say, except I'm glad U&J won. Can't really speculate about the plane thing; maybe VH1 will do a "Behind the Scenes" :) But personally, I don't think it's all that farfetched; the players have gotten on planes which were about to take off before - this time it was just even cutting the edge even closer.
