Heh, Terrance's, um, "whining" in the cab after the challenge to Sarah and trying to put water in his nose!?! just added to his annoyingness... :)

Not much to add from last night's episode... Terrence and Sarah made the huge mistake of not quitting the Fast Forward once they saw it had meat in it... don't know how long they stayed in there, but it seemed a while since the frat boys kept messing up yet they still arrived at the Pit Stop before them (though who knows how much before them). Nick and Starr and Dallas and Mom are still going strong. Frat boys were lucky they didn't get a time penalty for their mistake and just had to go back and redo, but I think they're the next to go. Ken & Tina's little mistake about getting rid of the costume early kinda makes them suspect too... can't afford to have them at this point of the game. But I think they'll make top 3 due to frat boys making worse mistakes.

Where's an elimination round when you need one??? Based on the previews to next week, depending on the "task" of the speed bump, it may not matter. But they say someone looses their passport and all of their money, so who knows...

With taxis, its hard to tell exactly what is going on. The frat boys started off good, but were third to the last challenge, but their taxi driver seemed to pick it up after that. Nick and Starr, on the other hand, seemed to have a very bad taxi driver. They didn't show it between other areas, but getting to the first area, they apparently had to backtrack. In general, though, it appeared that the distances between areas were pretty big, taking at least an hour to get from one area to the next anyway, so even if they weren't going in the wrong direction, they were worried that they were. Once they did get a competent taxi driver, Starr was still very anxious and quick to assume there was a problem, and it nearly cost them again when she kept wanting to change taxis.

In the end, though, the misfortune didn't cost them, but only because of the frat boys' problems at the detour. I'm not sure if you can quite call it changing your mind 3 different times since they didn't realize that you needed the uniform either way (didn't read the clue, clearly). But what was that with the marching? Looked like turrets. Seriously, all you have to do is relax and move your arms. It appeared that he was just trying way way way too hard, but the fact that he couldn't get it was just wierd. He said he wasn't very coordinated, but that looked more like a disability.

Well, apparently losing the passport wasn't that big of a deal because a) they didn't travel out of country and b) they were eliminated :) I wonder if the show kept track of the taxi "off-screen" though to retrieve their stuff?

I'm rooting for Nick and Starr all the way now, those other two teams are just terrible. Frat boys got a lucky break when Dallas and Toni decided to take the subway instead of a taxi and had to go back...

I think, however, that they were incredibly demoralized. They should have kept their heads about them, yes, but I think that had they not lost the passport and (perhaps more importantly), they money, then they wouldn't have made the mistakes that they made. It was an effort to save money that lead them to taking the metro instead of a taxi which was probably the most direct cause of their elimination. And they pointed out how a couple of friendly individuals helped them with money, but they didn't really make any point about how long they spent asking.

I agree though. I liked Dallas and Toni and it's a shame that he made an easy mistake that cost them so much, but they really have no one to blame but themselves and I think that is what makes it so much worse for Dallas. Overall, they deserved the final 3 more than the Ken and Tina and certainly more than the frat boys.

At this point, I can't imagine what is going to happen in the final to make anything interesting. After holding up a plane with Rob and Amber so that their final wouldn't be one-sided, I'm not sure I even want to watch. Honestly, I don't think there has been a final 3 so one-sided since that season and they ended up getting a bad taxi driver and losing because of the whole thing. I honestly can't imagine what might happen that would allow Nick and Starr to lose, but they other two teams are simply in a lower league.

Totally agree, but at least Nick and Starr are likeable (to me) that they're one of the teams that "deserve to win" this time around :)

Yeah! Nick and Starr won! I think it was pretty close with Ken and Tina, but they pulled it out!

The frat boys unfortunately got a bad cab driver so they were pretty much out of it from the beginning.

I didn't see Dallas and Toni at the finish line; I wonder if they're passport problems prevented them from getting back in time?

Yes, the frat boys ended up way behind right from the start and never had a prayer of catching up. Once they hit the "remember the game" challenge, they just sort of dropped off completely. They did keep making comments like, "we should have never gotten into this cab", so I wonder if there was some indication that we weren't shown that this cab driver didn't know what he was doing. It's ironic that a team as bad as they were most of the time would be eliminated by a cab driver.

I was a bit worried about Nick and Starr because of their cab driver also. Twice they had to stop the guy and get him to do a U-turn (good thing they were paying attention to the roads). After the puzzle, they switched cabs and Ken and Tina caught up again. That time, they managed to get to the correct side of the building and got into a lead with the green dinosaur. Again, ironic that they ended up basically winning apparently because of luck when they had fought harder throughout.

Did you catch Tina's comment when they were looking for the green dinosaur? They ask the guy and he comments about how there is a dinosaur in the window of the Standard Building and she asks, "Is it green?" After all, maybe he was thinking of the "other" dinosaur... ;) I understand not wanting to make a mistake, but I thought that it was a bit funny.

I also noticed the absense of Toni and Dallas. Found the story here: http://www.realityblurred.com/realitytv/archives/the_amazing_race_13/2008_Dec_02_dallas_interviews. Looks like it was because of the passports, but I read yesterday that they got them back the next day because the cab driver turned them into the embassy. Its a bit upsetting that they lost them in the first place because of a technical issue with the filming crew. I wonder if they are going to do anything to make it up to them or if it's just one of those "unlucky events" that are your own responsibility to avoid...?

Wow, somehow I missed this.

I thought there were indications that the frat boys' cab driver didn't know where he was going. I don't think that's ironic but par for the course, but what's ironic is that they were back in the US and wouldn't have the language barrier (at least with this cab :) )

Yeah, Nick & Starr seemed to get the cab driver curse too. Fortunately they caught up and beat Ken & Tina at the Remember Challenge. Sucks that the person at the food court didn't speak up when Nick & Starr were there but told Ken & Tina the faster way of getting to the next marker - wonder why.

I think I caught it, but now that's it's been so long, I don't remember it :)

I don't think the crew is going to make up their mistake with Dallas and Toni. I mean, they kinda precipitated it, but I think it's the racer's responsibility ultimately. I mean, why not hold on to your fanny pack or keep it by your feet? 'Cause I don't think you can change a mic battery when you're seated in a cab (or it'd be very difficult and not worth it when you can just get out and get it done). And I can't believe this is the first time a battery had to be changed in the Race...

It seems to be an unspoken rule that everything is ultimately the responsibility of the players (as you said). I think they have to do that just for liability issues, but when it comes to presentation, they completely downplay it.

When a car breaks down, they are very clear that they will get a replacement car there as quickly as possible but the team will not receive any compensation for "this unfortunate occurance". Realistically, this race is happening real-time, so they simply can't afford to be otherwise.

Its certainly not ideal that something the crew does can negatively impact you, but yeah, it sort of has to be that way.
