    Hey Ed, just a few words to thank you for all the work you put in to those boards.

    I love the new smileys, seems we are going to have even more fun than before ...

    sorry Its just my favorite :D

    Yeah it's pretty cool.

    Yes, yes, yes, my precious boards are back up! I love you! Oh, you're back! Oh, joy!

    <looks around>

    Uh, no one saw that!
  4. Mr_Pestilence Wumpus

    Uh, yeah, thanks.

    My name lost its underscore, and all of my previous posts were deleted. Granted, this is no great loss to the Literature of Western Civilization, and I am not in the habit of reviewing my old posts, but it does seem odd to have all my posts gone.

    Plus, my nickname is gone.

    I understand wanting to keep a website's appearance fresh, but was this really necessary?

    Other than a slightly different appearance, did we gain some new functionality?

    So, you like the Bondage Faery, huh? Dude, all of our nicknames disappeared. These are just the Beta Boards, Pestilence. If anyone truly objects, I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'m sure Ed just might consider undoing all his work (Uh, Ed, I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'m not presuming nothin\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' man!).

    Love those smileys! :eek:

    What are all the codes now?
  6. Ed Sullivan CPA Founder, Web Guy

    Mr_Pestilence -- all you're posts weren't actually DELETED, they just say they were posted by a guest now. That's it.

    Nicknames: Everyone lost 'em. I still have to fix that.

    Functionality: Plenty of new stuff. (Warning, I may get kinda technical)
    * Coded in PHP, not Perl - more function, faster, and I can upload it myself
    * Uses a mySQL backend, not flat files - an insane amount of times faster and much less server intensive
    * mySQL backend also provides more functionality with relation too...
    * searching. Full fledged searching
    * mass move - move posts by user/date
    * mass prune - prune by user/date
    * create BB codes on the fly
    * MANY more things I can set for each forum
    * MANY more things you can set in your profile
    * email capabilities
    * create icons on the fly (well, actuall the old boards had that too, but its better this way)
    * COPPA compliance if I ever decide to use it
    * censoring
    * create smilies on the fly
    ******** BIG ONE: EVERYTHING is controlled by web-editable templates *****
    * set permissions for user groups (which means I can "group" users, too)

    (Ok, so most of THAT stuff was backend.)

    * private forums, if ever needed
    * searching - its just that cool
    * more preferences that can be set
    * the "blue arrow"
    * custom headers/footers for each forum

    ...and a bunch more.

    Other than a few UBB tags, what did the old forum have that this one doesn't? (oh, speaking of those tags: they should be back soon... hopefully)
    This one has more features and a much much better backend.

    And one last thing: your name has the underscore back in it.

    How do you do the new smileys?
  8. Spaceman Spiff New Member

    hey Ed thanks for all the hard work and creativity you put into this site how do you do smileys? = P
  9. Mr_Pestilence Wumpus

    Hey, I ain't mad at'cha!

    I make my living as a webmaster, so I can appreciate most of what you're talking about.

    But since this is the BETA version, I just wanted to point out some kinks.

    Picking nits is just in my nature!
  10. Mr_Pestilence Wumpus

    My underscore is back!

    All is now right in the world!

    (Now if you could do something about those WotC price increases...?)

    I didn't mean to sound like an ass there, you asked about the functionality so there's your new functionality.

    Oh, and everyone: I got the nicknames back :)

    Oh, and Mr_P: If you only saw what the boards were like last July :eek: You would barely recognize them

    ooohh, my head hurts! :( A little advice to people, don't try to read Slaughter House Five in one day and write a book report about it. It doesn't work too well.

    Everything looks good Ed, nice job. ;)
